Coolant Vent hose crack
So my 335i was running great and as we pulled up to the movie theater and parked the car decided to wet itself.
I was a bit nervous until I found out where the coolant was coming from and it was a small hose on the top that runs from the expansion tank to the top radiator hose. The car spent a couple nights sitting in the theater parking lot while I waited for the part to show up but was an easy fix (did it onsite at the theater) Thought I would share for those interested if it happens to them. I saw somewhere on youtube a guy was charged nearly $300 for the fix. The part (17 12 8 570 061) was less than 50 USD from the dealership (I've even seen it for less online) Took me longer to film it than it did to fix it. An easy DIY. |

Great help
Yeap, happened to my wife's '14 m235i too. She called saying the car is reporting low coolant level in the morning (and she just got to work 50+ miles away). I didn't think much of it since she had low coolant warning before and the dealer just topped off not seeing any leaks. I recently topped off about a month prior to this latest notification from the car.
This time, she got home and reminded me about the 'add coolant' alert. As she pulled in and open the hood, steam was coming out of it. Found that the plastic tube was broken in the same place at that 90' degree elbow! I was mad that this coolant hose was made of brittle plastic? Car had less than 75K on it. Called the dealer but they wanted $75 bucks for it. Online was ranging about $35-40 dollars. I DIY with a 5/16in transmission oil hose (<4 ft) and hose clamps for $10 from AutoZone, based on the the genius idea below. I did order the tube online for $35 bucks as a backup. But looking at the permanent solution, this will occur again in about 50-75K miles again... ![]() After the repair, I had to add 1 gallon of coolant to bring back the level to normal and ran thru the instructions to run the 'electric water' pump to burp out air. Also had to clear the CEL of u1408 / P 0128. I think any longer and the engine could have been damaged. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1547622&page=2 |

Just happened to me while in line for ice cream haha. Left the car in the parking lot and ordered the part from FCP Euro - paid for 1-day shipping. Lets see if I can get it moving again as easily as you did! 95K on my car.

My aftermarket replacement one cracked also after much difficulty trying to install it. Caused overheating and a tow. The second replacement was from a dealer. Went on in two seconds.

Is the purge with the pump procedure a must ? This happened to me today and I got a ride to dealer bought the part and swapped it out. Topped off the coolant. And drove it home. It still steamed after but I assumed that was what was splashed around inside and the heat. Should I still do the purge tomorrow morning?

Thanx for the heads up & the nifty parking lot DIY
![]() I have heard of this being a 'normal' problem so I went ahead & bought the new line & keep it in my trunk for just in case when it happens. What was the mileage on your car when this happened? I have 39K on my 435, just wondering around when I should be expecting this to break ![]()
