Electronic Wastegate problems and performance tuner?
Just recently my car has been showing drivetrain malfunction messages. Been using a Dinan Sport Performance tuner for the past 1 1/2 years without any trouble. I removed it, then took the car to the dealer, and they did a software update with the hope that it clears the issue. I haven't reinstalled the Dinan yet, decided to let the car run without for a few weeks to rule out any problems.
A few days after getting my car back from the software update, I get the same messages again, this time with an accompanying check engine light on the dashboard. Hooked up Carly to do a quick diagnostic, and I got a few error codes, specifically stating the electric wastegate flap is sluggish, boost pressure control pressure too low, and electric wastegate control line break. Could this be attributed to my use of the Dinan Sport Performance tuner? Hopefully this gets covered by my extended warranty. The dealer is none the wiser to my use of the Dinan sport performance tuner. 2014 328ix N20

It just sounds like your waste gate is starting to die. The dealer should replace that under warranty.

Took it to the dealer today, apparently they diagnosed a problem with the turbo, replacement part coming in next week, all covered under warranty!

I assumed he was talking about the waste gate actuator or maybe the whole waste gate, but maybe not. Also interested to see what their doing if that's not the case.

I'll find out exactly what part(s) it is next week, don't have the work order on hand. At least the car is still very driveable until the part comes in. I wonder what BMW they will have as a loaner for me?!?

I just got my car back from the dealer, they kept it a few days to test it thoroughly. I got a brand new X1 as a loaner, I was actually pretty impressed with it, came in handy when I went office chair shopping a couple days ago!
So they replaced the waste gate actuator, the pin for the old one was broken flush and seized in the turbo. They had to take the turbo apart to get the pin out. All under warranty. So hopefully no more drivetrain failure codes!! Time will tell!
