Go skippy and Debenhams car insurance

Coming up to renewal time for the 435d. Now I normally go with Aviva or Admiral or one similar. Can't help but notice go skippy and Debenhams car insurance have come out cheapest on all 4 of the comparison sites I used. So it's got me thinking- are they any good? And worth giving a punt

Anyone got any experience of either go skippy or Debenhams?

Can’t comment on either of your suggested companies but yestetday I was sorting out insurance for the 335d I had delivered & the usual insurance companies were really expensive, £800+, the cheapest I was getting were with the likes of Halifax, Lloyds & o2, I never even knew any of them done car insurance. I ended up going with Halifax for £440 as I got a 10% discount for having another product, mortgage, with them.

I've just gone with Go Skippy, about £100 cheaper than anyone else. Daft name aside, they seem to look to offer as much as any other insurer, not sure what their claims handling is like but hopefully I'll never need to find out! I would avoid Debenhams if I were you, it is possible they could go in to administration this year(edit: by this year I mean 2019!) and I assume this would leave you without insurance and unable to get any money back.

I'm with Debenhams - no drama but haven't really needed them for anything.

Re. avoiding Debenhams because of the risk of going bust. You're not actually insured by Debenhams - it's just a front. Your insurance is underwritten by Eldon Insurance Services Limited (whoever the hell they are!).

Same with all these things. We bank with M&S but it's actually HSBC when you get down to the nitty gritty. These large high street retailers don't set up banking and insurance divisions.

Ps. Had a quick Google and Eldon also underwrite Go Skippy.

Fair enough, would still avoid them personally to avoid any possible complications.

Think of them as an insurance broker or intermediary. The underwriter will be in the small print and that is what you need to check...

Always do your research filter through reviews not just from the links use Google - sounds obvious but the truth. I nearly went with them but I read the reviews, in the end it wasn't worth £60 less.

You'll see the reviews are not good and they've deleted some reviews, key complaints were calling back and demanding charges if you got miniscule amount of info incorrect, cancelling or being terrible during claim time.

As a bove they are just a front.

Personally i’d avoid go skippy.

I know someone who (thought) he was with go
Skippy. Never received any paperwork, but didnt really follow it through.

Was involved in an accident sometime later and turned out he wasnt insured as they reject/ cancelled it for some reason.... but no email/ letter and most inportantly they never refunded any money back to him.

Was a right mess... eventually managed via the ombundsment to get it resolved but it dragged on for well over a year.

To get the best price am I better of leaving it right up until the renewal date- say the day/night before? Or doing it in advance. I read something on previous threads about 21 days?

Definitely don't leave it until the last minute, you'll pay significantly more.

Around 3 weeks before renewal is regarded as the best time to sort your car insurance.

Seems a straight up kinda guy, what could possibly go wrong? I'm sure there are no nasty little surprises in the small print when it comes to claiming.

He's got those diamond mines after all.

I had a minor bump a few years ago where a guy ran into the back of me on a motorway (about a 2mph collision). He was with Go Skippy and I had absolutely zero problems getting my car fixed.
