Fake engine sound

I've been meaning to ask if an F36 430i has a fake engine sound piped through the speakers?

It sounds much too good to be a 4 cylinder. Acceleration at low to mid RPM range sounds amazing. Only at higher revs when you can tell it's a 4 cylinder.

probably yes. try switching between comfort and sport+ and if you hear different sounds for the same throttle application the answer is yes.

Yes it does! Welcome to the BMW fake engine sound world (I found it shocking when I first found out and I suspected it after my very first test-drive of a BMW (F36 428i)... it was that obvious.). It is called Active Sound Design (ASD) and there are various ways to disable it.

Yup..you have ASD.

I came from a long history of tuning 4 cyclinder... and I know for a fact they don't sound good at all....lmao

Honda i4 is the best sounding 4 out there especially the naturally aspirated high revving B engine followed by the the K engine.

The “fake engine sound” thing is a little overblown. I’ve coded mine out and put a Dinan muffler on it. It sounds the same inside as it does outside and it definitely does not sound like any T4 I’ve ever heard.

The car will sound louder in Sport because the exhaust is valved. Closed in Comfort, open in Sport.(At least on my 430 it’s valved).

How embarrassing. So as grown adults we're supposed to enjoy this like a 6 year old?

EVERY brand does this, so I'm not sure why you are so "SHOCKED!" that your BMW has it. Buy a Ford, GM, Audi, anything, they have piped in fake engine noise.

The cabins are quieter and they do this so you can still "feel sporty". with the sound. Drive in comfort and it disables.

In comfort mode it sounds like a 6 cylinder. In Sport or Sport + it just sounds like low hums

Run your vin through a BMW VIN decoder to pull all your options and know for sure. Not all cars were equipped with active sound design.

www.mdecoder.com is a good one.

Both Audi & BMW had the fake sounds through speakers, you can turn it off by coding.

I used the decoder and did not see ASD listed anywhere.

When did Audi have an interior fake sound through the speakers?

You will not see it listed. It is standard equipment.

Check the website technicpnp
They make a plug-in harness that eliminates the ASD without coding. The car still thinks it's there so no potential issues.

Why buy and install hardware if you can just turn it off by coding.

But it shows 12V sockets and floor mats and air conditioner and anthracite headliner as standard equipment but it won't show ASD ?

Floor mats being very important standard equipment that must be show in the VIN

My point is that it shows everything even the very basic information but it's not showing ASD
