iDrive Software Update and Coding

If I upgrade my iDrive software, will this impact coding I've previously done to iDrive (like setting it to ID6 light)?

Nope. Should be good.

I think we need to separate the 2 cases here.
If you do the (user-available) update yourself you may not lose the coding (I don't know).

If you have your SW updated by a dealership, all coding will be gone. Gone through that recently, like many others.

What's the biggest change you see in the newer iDrive sw?

There are zero noticeable functionality changes (as usual)
I suspect bug fixes and better support of things like updated Apple CarPlay, etc.
One of the previous updates claimed to have fixed something about Bluetooth connection issues, from memory.

Normally you don't see or feel anything different when updating iDrive (or any other module software for that matter).
