LED vs neon for underneath lighting

who's running what and what made you pick it.
Any difficulties on the installation?
I've got LEDs on our motorcycle but those are essentially a moldable tacky strip, so easy to install.

Bro, you do what pleases you. I've found some of the dudes on here can be like valley high chicks, always need to make sure you know how dumb they think you are. Rock on my dude.

I would say prewired LED strips with a remote control and tap into a 12V source, that way you won't have to worry about wiring in a switch. Should be easy enough.

LED is the light source. "RGB" is a color scheme, typically one with most visible colors selectable. With very few exceptions, RGB lighting is almost exclusively LED powered.

Neon is antiquated. Much higher power draw, need glass tubes full of helium, more expensive. LEDs are also not as susceptible to getting knocked out with bumps from the road. They are as bulletproof as you install them. Neons have a softer appearance, but LEDs can be modified with filters if you need for much less cost.

Thanks for the explanation I guess

In computer world... when people say LED, it is assume they are static color ie red, white and so on)

I'm just saying the OP go for RGB lighting, yeah its LED.

I've done a little browsing and am heavily leaning towards LED, and the kits I've seen are the million color variety. Almost guaranteed to always be a shade of purple on our car due to personal tastes.
I am HUGELY jealous if the interior led accent lighting that I know the X2s have, but I'd never spend what it costs to change all the door panels for that.

If you're going to go with LED i would also look into as much chrome trim as possible including wheel arches. It will help the light "jump"

you're welcome

OP, I just did this and I get comments on it all the time.

I bought four 50 lumen led flashlights from Home Depot--just, like, $10 each

Then I found theater gel film in green (homage to my old green bmw)

Green gel on flashlight lens with included adhesive.

Then I cleaned my rocker panels really well underneath with acetone and xylene and let them dry.

Finally, I positioned the flashlights underneath with Gorilla tape--2" wide--I didn't want any problems.

When I cruise at night, I just have to push the button on each flashlight and I'm off...shining brightly.

Only issue is I've been forgetting to turn them off so go through a lot of batteries, and the cops seem to take particular notice of my rig. The tickets are worth it for the effect, I think.

(Sorry, I shouldn't have done this, I know. My way of saying "please don't" as others have already. )

You're right, but I don't think the OP would've gotten too scared.

OP, someone said something it being an idea from the 80s...even then it didn't make sense. But seriously, I've been around bmws long enough that they don't take well to electronic interferences...they're very delicate that way.

I'm sorry for the troll but I've been socially distancing for so long, I've become anti-social.

No worries lol, we all have our own likes and dislikes, I'm not throwing any chrome on anything I own, that stuff looks tacky in my mind.
