330e pressurised fuel tank error
Hi everyone,
Really hoping that there’s someone here who has the first idea about what to do here! So I bought a 2017 330e a few months ago. It had been in an accident with airbags deployed but with very minor front damage. I’ve repaired the damage and replaced the airbags and the car is completely perfect apart from one problem: The display always shows the error message: ‘Fuel tank system fault. Do not open fuel tank’. The car has a refuelling button to depressurise the fuel tank but this is completely unresponsive, doesn’t even try to depressurise the tank. I used the emergency access pull cord thing to open the fuel tank and have been filling it up with this method for 3 months with no problem. The refuelling is slow and the pump always cuts out I presume because the tank is still pressurised when I refuel. I scanned the car and it shows the error: 806034 ‘tank shut off valve (TAV) or pressure tank system: Safe Mode’ I guess my question is- is there some kind of trip switch for the fuel tank or similar that might have been triggered because of the crash or does the safe mode thing come up if there’s a general error with the pressurised tank? Any ideas HUGELY appreciated! |

Most fuel tanks do have safety / trip switches in the event of an accident, yes. It's been a feature on most cars for 30 years or more.
I suspect you need a specialist or a dealer to diagnose the real location of the problem, unless you like randomly chucking parts at a problem |

I'd guess that there is some issue with the pressure release system. I don't think your pumping issue is because it's under pressure, as by using the emergency release and I screwing it you release any pressure it's under anyway. The button for releasing it should trigger that pressure release valve, and then open the flap for you.
My F30 330e had an occasional issue with not responding to the button, but it was intermittent, and nothing like your issue. I suspect you may need a main dealer to resolve it.

I had the same issue. It wouldn't appear if the car hasn't been driven far and I wanted to open the petrol cap. But after a reasonable drive and I went to open the cap, I got an error. BMW replaced the faulty pressure sensor under warranty

I have a bmw 330e 2016 and have the problem where is says fuel tank system error all the time. Also my car has developed a very annoying vibrating and shaking of the engine when hot or cold. Its always around 1k revs and leaves at 1.5k revs approx. My mechanic had told me it could be the high pressure fuel sensor or spark plugs that need changing. I have done this and the shaking still remains. Thanks P.S. the car has only 32000 miles and most of it on the electric engine
