Advice on Radar Detector & Laser Jammer
I am currently in the market of purchasing a Radar Detector and a Laser Jammer combo.
Hands down, no doubt, I am gettin the V1. Now, when it comes to Laser Jammers, it gets fuzzy... I've read many reviews on laser jammers, and reviewed many test various websites have conducted... the results seem a little mixed... I wanted your technical opinions on what Laser Jammer to purchase.... Here are the contenders: 1) Laser Interceptor (LI) From all the reviews, it seems to provide the best coverage and JTG. It also has many features and constant updates from their website that can be downloaded to the CPU. Price is what draws people away... ~$700 to ~$800??? + installation Results typically showed this being the best jammer 2) Blinder M25 (J15) This seems to be the most preferred choice of jammer. The price is relatively reasonable, and it's one of the most popular ones. It also has the ability for 4 jammers (2 in front, and 2 in the back), calling it the M45 (J16), typically used for larger vehicles. This is understood to be the best jammer besides the steeply priced LI.... ~$450 3) Escort Shifter ZR4 Yet another jammer, was recommended by a friend, said it was quite reliable. It comes with 2 mounts in the front, and one for the rear license plate. Results indicated that it was not as effective as the above 2.... ~$400??? 4) suggest another laser jammer???? Any thoughts, comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated SR

There's a lot of talk that the two do very similar things....the latest updaets show this:
1) for the longest time, the V1 did not have calibration, meaning over a period of extended time, the results and effectiveness of the radar could be compromised... this has been fixed for the latest revision of V1 (3.863? I think) 2) The V1 allows us to constantly upgrade by just sending the radar in, so in theory, you will never be outdatted... however I've seen reports of people spending as much as $150 to get the radars updated... ridiculous in my mind... It should be something like a "free" upgrade, we should just be paying shipping... but that's a whole other discussion 3) the escorts, bell, etc... they produce a whole new product, which essentially means that the 9500 you buy now will be outdatted when the next generation of products come aboard... although I'll have to admit, the basic features of a radar never go away... technology here has been stalled for a long time ..... which would also explain V1's dominance 4) Sure, the escort may be cheaper, have cool features like the GPS / traffic light cameras, etc... but in reality, I'd never use that....simply because I would never run a traffic light, or use any of the other features available on the escorts.... 5) V1 usually lead the pack of tests various people have conducted.....but there's been arguments on either side.... so it's a tie???

again, not to start a debate, but the V1 has been around since 1992, don't you think the 9500i being the latest has some sort of technological advancement in terms of hardware, etc?

Before you get one installed, be aware that laser jammers are illegal in Nebraska, Minnesota, Utah, California, Oklahoma, Virginia, Colorado, Illinois and Washington DC. I don't know where your location of "ATX" is, but when I was looking at getting one installed, I found out that it was illegal in my home state. You might want to double check, or at the very least, find a better way of concealing the jammer if you plan on installing one.

V1 is a great choice for radar
For laser, I've heard the best option is to put something over your front plate so it is less reflective. It is hard to detect laser because there isn't much spread so you don't get as much warning if other people are getting hit.. unlike radar where you can detect it when it is used on others |

I don't have front plates Also, these jammers will not allow the cop to get a reading on their laser device... at the same time, it alerts you that a reading was attempted. At that point, you turn your laser jammer off, slow down. Next, when the cop goes for the headlights, I'm already slowed down, and he gets a reading that's within the speed limit....

Read this jammer test here from a more unbiased group.
At the end of the test they run some KA and K band tests with V1 and some other detectors. Here are the results.

A Radar detector might serve some purpose. Laser jammers are useless. They dont prevent crap. Dont waste the money. Trust me on this one. And just so you know, there is nothing more satisfying that writing a ticket to someone who has a radar detector hardwired into their car.
