Sqwinny's 2013 F30 328i

Hi F30Post,

Figured I'd make a quick little progress thread to share a basic build of the car.

2013 328i M-sport 6MT

When I first picked it up:

First mod, 3m ceramic tint (20% all around):

Full 1 step detail by hand:

Added an M-Style ABS plastic rear wing:

Did a 335i rear muffler conversion:

Found a great deal on OEM LCI tails and did the retrofit. OEM wiring harness from Germany took forever. I Also added Rolling Gears 3.5 exhaust tips:

Saw a local MG F30 rolling around with this piece, so I also added a rear roof spoiler. Matches the wing and is a small detail that makes it not seem like a standard car:

Ikon Motorsport M-Sport Style front lip two-tone test fit. I also picked up gloss black kidney grills along the way:

Current Performance Mods:
Modded Circuit works DP (cut downpipe to factory pipe 1" to fit into the stock exhaust to fit
Removed only OEM resonator with a straight pipe
Famous $200 G-Plus 5" Intercooler
OEM 513m M4 Wheels (18x9, 18x10)
OEM M3/M4 Brake Setup
BM3 stage 2 E30 tune

Exterior Mods
M Sport Style Gloss Black Kidney Grills
M Sport Style Gloss Black diffuser
M Sport Style low ABS Wing
ABS Rear Window Spoiler
30% 3m Crystalline Tint (seriously car is colder than regular tint)
Rolling Gears 3.5" Exhaust Tips

Interior Mods
OEM Rubber Sportline Mats w/matching Trunk liner
OEM BMW Door Pocket Umbrellas
OEM LCI HVAC LED retrofit
OEM BMW Sunshade
Rennline Magnetic Phone Mount (seriously THE BEST phone mount and should be OEM)
eBay Black Sunglass Holder (replaces drivers side roof handle)
LED Door light inserts

Other things are coming as they are shipped/when I upload photos

following week I put on the 513m wheels and this is the stance with factory suspension + m4 brakes installed. looks like the brakes and the wheel setup is ideal.

for stance + poke, this is the poke/fitment. not sure why bimmerpost is rotating images. sorry

I ended up wanting more power, went The Turbo Engineers TTE400. Installed a b58tu retrofit kit as well.

Louder + fun + fast spool. Car sound even more like a cummins diesel at this point:

Did some changes as I wanted to increase intake flow + efficiency. Was able to pick up a set of BimmerMilvs and install them (gives 1mm of lift and 3 degrees more intake duration) Stock valvetronic support is in the middle. Material is removed from different areas of the support

Officially the first n20/n26 with a little modification to do the b58 coil retrofit. Modified the wiring to look OEM after the test fit.

Edit 4/24 - You can buy these kits officially here:
https://torcoils.com/products/n55-s5...s-cnc-bracket-

Get Eldor coils from FCP Euro for the life time warranty
BMW part number BMW 12138692611
B58 coils with longer boot to keep it 100% OEM is from the N63T3 motor

Photo of the engine bay with cerakote charge + boost pipes and actually clean. OEM+ for those who don't know (removed the airbox and cover for the intake to show off the pipes)

Do you have a link to these B58 coil retrofit kits? I had the worst luck with another brands performance coils.

Posting a couple updates as things have changed quite a bit.

I personally found boost leak issues with the GFB DV+, thus if you want to make more than 330whp on any of the hybrid turbos, it’s advised to go with the turbosmart VR9 kompact. Choosing full recirculating or dual port (50 air/50 recirculating) doesn’t matter.

Made a custom downpipe and full 3” exhaust all the way back into the 335i active autowerke muffler.

https://youtube.com/shorts/4tlboirbn...CE3GxjUle8H2QA

Car has been running fine for quite some time with its current setup

Currently I am in the process of actually building the block to hold some serious power. I chose LA Sleeve here in the USA as it’s local and a proven method to strengthen the cylinder walls. Dave over at LA sleeve rates this for 1200whp and up to 55psi of boost. They can also make this block a closed deck design and has been shown to hold 1600whp in other platforms. These were bored and honed to match the chosen Carillo pistons which are safe to 8000rpm as confirmed by Carillo via phone call when discussing limitations with an engineer.

The 4 10mm head studs have been modified to fit 11mm head studs and utilize the 11mm arp2000 head stud kit from an evo x 4B11.

Short block specs:

n20 factory cast block
n20 factory forged crank balanced and polished
LA Sleeve open performance sleeves - good for around 1000whp and 62psi per cylinder
Carillo rods and pistons
ACL Race main and connecting rod bearings (standard extra clearance to handle more power + higher revs + heavier weight oil. 5w-40 Motul is oil of choice)
Arp (201-4302) m50 10mm head studs to be used as main studs
Arp (207-4206) Evo X 4B11 11mm head studs

I had the cylinder head pocket ported + upgraded internally by headgames with their special Ferrea valves and GSC spring kit with retainers.

On other big turbo n20 cars, the port has been shown to reduce the need for boost to flow air and make power, also will allow for more boost earlier than the factory head, which eliminates boost surge issues when asking for more boost in the lower rpm range which occurs when fitting larger turbos.

Lastly I had the combustion chambers reshaped similar to what occurs on n55/s55 cylinder head builds to eliminate the spark plug hole from cracking.

Built head specs:

Factory n20 cylinder head
GSC Springs and retainers
Ferrea Headgames Valves
Headgames pocket port
Headgames combustion chamber blending
Bimmermilvs v1 (0.5mm lift vs 1.0mm lift of v3)
Factory cams
Cylinder head modified to fit 11mm studs

HeadGames head build pocket porting:

HeadGames Head build combustion chambers:

Some side things.

I did get the Bayoptics pre-lci xenon yellow DRLs for the halos. For the xenon models you have to remove the original boards (heat gun and small chisel), scrape the module heat sink, use thermal paste glue and put the new board on. Camera picks up the color funny, but looks great in person.

Sometimes it’s the little things. I retrofitted the wire loom cover from the 2015-2016 car onto the 2013 car to make it cleaner + OEM+ and more of a LCI engine bay. If you look, the top right, the cover is on and hides the wires. Easy and fast retrofit.

Interior trim looks spot on; suits it well

I have the OEM BMW cf/alcantara trim in my UK F31; the only part I've not fitted is the armrest as I prefer it in leather to keep with the seats etc

I found the pedals a pain in the arse to fit; but I've shovel like hands and I'm not exactly built to fit into footwells

it was annoying to say the least, but I finished it in around an hour or so. a YT video from f80 Scooby made it easy in comparison to going in blind.
