Gfb diverter valve

Does anyone on here run a GFB diverter valve? I heard that the flutter the valve makes is minor compressor surge not sure how true that is but my stock diverter valve is leaking boost so I have to swap it and the only other option seems to be CTS bov but then I also heard that a open vented system is very bad for our cars (n20) because our cars are a closed system and the computer is used to recirculating boost. Don't know what to do Any suggestions? thanks!

A lot of us are/have ran the GFB DV+ on the N20. Other than install being a bit tricky... all reports have been positive.

The unit is extremely well built, just make sure you buy from a reputable source as they are commonly counterfeited.

If you are concerned with compressor surge, do not install the stiffer spring that comes in the kit. Without it... the DV+ will function like stock but will hold boost much better than a worn out stock unit (plastic vs. machined metal).

So I just don't install any spring and it will function just like stock?

You'd reuse the stock spring and yes, it will function just like stock.

Can't find the link at the moment, but the flutter sound the GFB makes has been discussed at length and it was determined that it does not cause compressor surge. Pretty sure the manufacturer even responded staring so. Anyways, this is what the GFB sounds like with the stiffer spring.

Even with the stiffer spring this definitely sounds like it's opening and blowing down(exactly as it should); the last video I saw of someone's DV+ really did sound like compressor surge, and I say that as someone who spent a few years running a test bench developing flow maps for turbo compressors.

I have found a few of these valves at a fraction of the price of the GFB,,, Has any one ever heard any issues with another manufacturer? Mad Dog out of Brandon, FL offers one with all the same pieces for $30. Billet aluminum and made in the USA...

Thoughts?

In my years I have found that some manufacturers capitalized on premium cars by charging premium prices just because it's for a Bimmer, Merc, Vette,, etc. I mean I wouldn't go with a no name turbo assembly but something as simple as this part seems like it may be one of those such situations.

I may bite the bullet and get it and report back. My stock unit isn't bad so if it doesn't work so well I'll just put the stock back on and return it. Or worst case, eat the $30.

Then ask for donations since I saved everyone else the head ache LOL

The only benefit is the improvement of sound? If the oem isn't broke, obviously.

I thought the factory being plastic and also having a week spring had an issue with bleed off and that's why the replacements are billet And with a stronger stiffer spring??

So I bit the bullet and for the $30 bought the "white box" offering of the diverter valve. As you can see, with the exception of not having GFB inscribed on the side, it's identical

Here is everything that came in the box (except that's my factory diverter valve in the pic)

Here is the difference between the springs, the factory is the long, slightly thinner one

This was installed on Oct 29, I wanted to drive the car for a while before posting in case there was an issue. And with almost 2 months and over 1,000 miles I haven't had any issues or codes. The blow off is much more distinct (I also have an AFE intake). The piggy back I had went bad so I can't say if it's holding better at high boost but it doesn't seem to bleed off under factory boost levels. The fit and finish seems good. I've never handled a GFB but in the end it's a piece of aluminum and the piston fits like a machine fit. So unless you want a $70+ engraving on the side and are in the market for a diverter valve I don't think you can go wrong with this one. I've posted the link to the eBay page in a previous post. Good luck!
