Tune required?

I am new to the M3 world so I apologize for such a noob question.

Do you need to get a tune on these cars if you upgrade anything that increases air flow such as downpipe/intakes? Or can we just upgrade and be okay (safe)?

If you have a car without particulate filters (US) and you get downpipes with at least 200 cell catalytic converters in them no tune required.

no tune required with any downpipes or intakes, but the tune gets you the most value for your money.

I would assume if it's catless downpipe you need a tune if not you will have a CEL?

For those of us that live in a county where there is no sniffer test, I'd assume keeping the second set of cats (midpipes) and getting catless Downpipes with tune would be a nice option? Would also assume keeping secondary cats would keep smell in check, especially if running an ethanol tune.

From the posts I've seen on the X3M builds with the S58, anyone replacing downpipes is going with a tune to make use of the extra flow. Still early in the G8X lifecycle to have many products/reviews
