2 extra radiators with the track package
Ive got a 340i thp, which came with a fog light delete and in place 2 extra radiators.
Just curious what the major benefit of these are? Does it suggest I can push the car a bit more? Tune / mod it a little more safely? Does anyone ever modify the radiators or anything? Just curious thx |

Those two extra radiators were not exclusive to the thp, they were fitted on non thp models too. I don't think any tuner discriminates whether they are fitted or not. Many here are running bm3 or mhd regardless..

It's designed to help keep engine at operating temps when beating on the car around a track, but I have yet to hear of anyone overwhelming the cooling system, regardless of the cooling package. It's a part of the engine/turbo cooling circuit. If it was a part of the intercooler circuit then there might be something there.

If I recall correctly, the THP on N55 adds both an outboard oil cooler and an outboard aux radiator, but on B58 it only adds a single outboard aux radiator.
Regardless, the additional radiators only provide an increase in cooling capacity, the ability to handle and manage higher temperature loading better, if you see them. So yeah, it allows you to push it a bit more and still have the engine remain cooler. It won’t really effect how a tune functions, but it helps by keeping excessively high temp, if encountered, under control. And yeah, racers encountering extreme thermal loading often add additional or larger coolers to compensate. |

I think maybe sportline. I have a shadow sport 340, not m sport, and I have the extra radiator. At least if we are talking about the small one behind the fog light area.

The M Sport package adds 2-3 things based on whether the car is automatic or manual. 1. All N55 cars have an oil cooler radiator. However, the M Sport package adds a liquid to liquid (oil to coolant) heat exchanger that is tied in with the oil cooler radiator. 2. The M Sport package cars have an additional/secondary coolant pump and an auxiliary coolant radiator in the bottom driver's side. 3. If you had M Sport and your car is an automatic transmission, you'll have an additional radiator sitting in front of the air conditioning condenser that is interfaced with the liquid to liquid (coolant and ATF) heat exchanger. The additional radiator is piped from the coolant side of this heat exchanger. I imagine the liquid to liquid heat exchangers are pretty effective. But you also need an air to liquid interface to exchange that heat. |

I have the THP on my 2016 435i GC. It just bundled M Sport pkg, M Brakes, Adaptive M Suspension, and Variable Sport Steering with a wheel/tire combo.
RealOEM shows the aux rad on my car as going with M Sport pkg AND M Sport Brakes. (Both are part of the THP). But you could get both and not full THP. The outboard oil cooler is shown for all 435 models, M Sport or not, as you said. So an N55 thing. TIS said the distinction for the aux rad on a 340 (B58) goes with the M Sports package, just passing it along. No idea of the Sportline distinction… |

Extra radiator is being used to refer to an additional one, ie two mini radiators behind each fog light grill. One is standard...

I had a 340i ZTR aka Track Handling Package. The extra radiators helps where the name suggests: on the track. Repeated laps generates a lot of heat and can sap performance noticeably. You will probably never really see significant benefits on the street since the car is rarely pushed as hard as it is on the track, regardless of how crazy we think we drive. It doesn't make the car go faster, it simply allows it to perform at high levels for a little longer.

It's really complicated just like all the brake setups. There are (3) options.
1. 1 Main Rad and No Aux Rads 2. 1 Main Rad and 1 aux Rad 3. 1 Main Rad and 2 Aux Rads The breakdown in options is different for 3 and 4 series, and N55 vs B58. So it's no use going back and forth trying to figure out what makes sense, because it won't. My 440i is Msport no THP and has 1 aux radiator. If I added THP then it would get the 2nd radiator. There are also non MSport cars with THP and the extra radiators. Some cars could have fog lights and both aux rads, others deleted the fogs when you got the extra aux rads. So it just depends. |

Pretty sure it was. It's available on the 435 (my car has it), so I couldn't imagine it not being available on the sedan. I've seen a rare 335 or two running around with the M Sport front facia and no fog lights, which is usually a visual cue.

It was called Dynamic Handling Package iirc instead of the LCI's "Track Handling Package". Might have been packaged differently as well, maybe someone can clarify that.

At this point you'd probably have to run both a pre- and post-LCI car through a VIN decoder to get the exact differences between the packages.

The extra radiator is for extra cooling when pushed as on a track. Other cars like the corvette also add radiators for their performance or track package like the Z51.
