Which Mp3's does the car not play

i know we've all had this problem, where we make mp3 cd's and go to our favorite songs only to find out that the car wont play them. Anyone know how to spot mp3's that the car wont play? or does anyone know a codec/ mp3 converting program/format that the car will play for sure. I noticed that mp3's that i've trimmed a little seem to always not play.

Ps: i tried searching the forum with no luck, this should defenetly be a sticky once we got a solution.

depends on if you have the new iDrive. My 09 seems to play everything. I've yet to come across a song it wouldn't play.

I notice my 2008 has a problem playing certain mp3s from a USB thumb drive.
They are podcasts and some of the longer ones won't play. The whole USB mode gets stuck and I can't even skip to the next track. All I can do is turn off the power or move to a different mode such as radio or CD.
After about a minute it makes a loud noise and it skips to the next track on its own.
I haven't noticed any problem playing short podcasts and standard songs from USB.
How do you find out when there are software updates?

I'm a bit confused by the question. An mp3 is an mp3. The only difference between them would be length and bit rate.

I've never had an issue with any of my cds. Even mp3 I burned back in 2000 work.

Now there can be the possibility that certain cd brands may not work. Best bet is to burn a cd, run to the car and make sure it works.

What'd you mean by this?

The bitrate (kbps), that you encode at, shouldn't matter but maybe the frequency you encode at is high. 44KHz, 48KHz will work but 96KHz might not be compatible.
