09 Smartphone Integration

I picked up my 2009 335i (came from a 2006 330i) that has the smartphone integration last night and I think I am missing something.

What else is supposed to be included? A different cable then the regular iphone cable (the audio output on the iphone is on the top instead of the bottom like the itouch ipod)?

Is something supposed to plug into this "port" in the center console where I take the cover off (seperate from the normal iphone USB/Audio port)? I've attached a picture of the center console.

The dealer didn't show you how it works

... to me it looks like it's missing something.

First 2009 that has goes out the door for them. Generally speaking, I knew more about the car then they did anyway (gotta love following the forums).

You have to purchase a phone specific adapter insert from the parts department to work with your smartphone.

Yeah, but try to buy one. I don't think they are even available yet

We bought an option that can't do anything yet

I believe only the iPhone works in there right now and more phones will be available down the road.

You can buy a 1st generation iphone cradle today from your parts department, but it wont work with music, just phone, external antenna and charging. Its really designed for the older non-6NF cars, but will work with your new 6NF base plate.

However, not all is lost as a 3G iphone cradle is due any day ... and will work with music.

No, there are NO adapters available right now for 6NF Smartphone Integration.

From where do you have information that the 3G iPhone cradle is on the way?

I talked to BMWUSA and they claimed there is not even a commitment that BMW will ever produce a 3G cradle. Yes, I know - it sounds rediculous. But that was their first answer, and I wasn't even giving them a hard time or anything....

BMWUSA is worthless (as you noted with your "ridiculous" remark).

On top of the feature we have to buy the cradle additionaly??!!! It's a 30+ thousand dollar car!
