What??? Here in Chicago everyone selling at sticker price. Tho I got $1300 msrp off via Costco thru an authorized Costco dealer.

U should just order it thru my salesperson and have it shipped to you.

Depends on the dealership and if the owners want to be a$$holes. I started a thread that was somewhat "controversial" because someone tried to defend the mark ups and tie it to "making the brand stronger amongst competitors." :

My dealership is selling the 230i and 240i at MSRP. However, they're marking up the true M cars by $20k.

Down the street at the other dealership the 2 series coupes are going for at least $10k over MSRP.

Garage List
$500 under MSRP here. Our dealers seem to be sticking to MSRP.

Guess they think someone is impulsive/dumb enough to pay that much.

If a dealership/salesperson tried to pull that on me I wouldn't purchase another car from them now or in the future

Two cars on order. G80 M3 Comp xDrive and M240i. M3 at MSRP less incentives. M240i at $500 off MSRP less incentives.

I ordered one for msrp but wouldn’t be surprised if the dealer is conducting some shenanigans. 6 weeks since I ordered and no update.

At the dealership now and just heard that for all future 240i's they are marking them up an extra $2,500.

Did you get a production number? If not you didn't place an order.

Dealer just now: "We're still waiting on a production date for your M240i"

Should I ask him for a number?

Yes. "Understand. Please share the production number so I can track my order."

Still waiting on production date likely means your order hasn't been submitted and they don't have an allocation. If the dealer had an allocation, your order would be submitted and accepted by the factory and slotted into a future built week pending production.

Think of it like a restaurant. You told the server what you want, but they haven't dropped the ticket to the kitchen yet.

IMO dealers are notorious for collecting deposits and "taking orders" and then smoothing things over or talking vague with the customers until the metaphorical "kitchen" says they're ready.

I refused to place my order unless the dealer could generate a production number. They traded allocations with another dealer and shoved my order through. Placed the order a week ago. Got a production number immediately and car is going to drop onto the line next week.

No production number means you're on a list, not on the line.

Yes correct. My salesperson emailed me my order sheet within 30 min of charging my credit card the $1000. And it had a production number on it - which I was able to use to track my car online. So there is zero reason your salesperson cannot provide this to you if your order has been placed.

How do you know it's going to drop into the line next week. On the website, it just says "scheduled for production" for me. Doesn't have a build week number. Attaching what i see online as of now. Where did you find out what week it's going in to production?

Email or call bmw genius. They can see your (presently) scheduled build week. With the caveat of it can always be delayed.

The guy at bmw genius said week 48 and said it will start next week. Maybe he misspoke and meant in 2 weeks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ either way at least it's in the pipeline.

Good info. This is my first BMW order. Have cars on order from other manufacturers and they’re all different in how they operate.

I gave BMW of Dallas a deposit on 10/8 because they said they had a modifiable October allocation. So it’s Nov 19th and my car isn’t in production. So that means they lied for sure right?

Did they give you a production number? I mean in this environment things are getting delayed all over, but as others have noted if they have an allocation they should be able to give you a production number.

Shopped around most are above MSRP (different levels) on the m240i which is madness for a regular production car but then again some Hondas are above

My old BMW dealer is offering me a "loyalty" incentive of MSRP. I almost lost it because they sounded like it was a huge deal..

The mark-ups are only a thing if someone pays it. Otherwise, it's just a wacko asking for money....okay, that wacko owns a BMW dealership too, but still crazy!

Shop around.
