Annoying Discoveries

Picked up my 230i on Monday. So far:

1) Engine start/stop. You can turn it off, but not permanently. You have to hit the 'button' each time you get in the car.

2) Doors lock automatically when you start to drive. Can't find how to turn this off.

3) No CD player - is there an onboard hard drive? Can music be played from a 'memory stick?

Why the engine start/stop doesn't have a setting to turn if off permanently I have no idea. It might have to do with enironmental regs.

For the door locks you might find an overide buried deep in the settings.

Re the CD player, most vehicles now have a USB plug for playing your own content.

This was also the case on my 2019 M550iX so I don't think it's unique to the 2022 model year or the M240iX model.

IIRC having the ability to permanently disable auto start/stop effects the mileage you are allowed to report from EPA tests. Some automakers don’t care and give you the option to permanently turn off (my wife’s Volvo is like that), some automakers (like BMW) want to advertise better mileage figures so have to always disable every time you start car.

If these are the biggest complaints with this car, I'd say you're doing pretty good :-)

Its the same for the M340i. I have the button but have to press it everytime, or switch it to sport.

The doors locking while driving is literally every car nowadays right? lol

And same with the CD player, just use your phone. My M340I has a built in harddrive but they stopped doing that after 2020

1. Correct. Be thankful you even have the option to turn it off.

2. Settings -> Doors/unlock

3. No hard drive.

In the hybrid BMW's (like my wifes X5) now you don't even get the option to turn off auto start/stop, so we're still lucky.

I can’t stand that function, ruins every drive. Good to hear it can still be switched off on the G42. Maybe there’s even a fuse to pull to disable it permanently?

What would also be nice is if the car remembered the mode you had it in when it was shut off. So if you always drive in Sport, it'd still be in Sport the next time you started it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe people have coded this previously with bimmercode/carly.

Hopefully that can be done again with this car

What's a CD?

jk....when I bought my e92 in 2011 I asked if it had a CD player. I haven't used it once.

Thanks - the option you describe in 'car/setting/door & vehicle access' does not exist in my 'menu'

Well, I've previously used the CD player to 'burn' music to the onboard hard drive. Depending on the onboard equipment - head unit, DA converter, etc, different pathways have different fidelity/quality. Certainly in prior 2 series that didn't have the 'real' HK system, this made a very big difference.
