First BMW - Placed my order

Well everyone,

This will be my first BMW. Ordered a M240i today and received my production number.

My build:
Brooklyn Grey
Shadowline
Black wheels w/AS run flats
Cognac Interior
Aluminum Trim
Premium Package
Parking Assist Package
Remote Start
Drive Recorder
Active Cruise Control

I'm a car enthusiast with some notable vehicles as: Golf R, Civic Type R, WRX, Camaro, Miata x2, and some others I'm probably forgetting.

I'm looking forward to ownership and learning a lot from the forum.

Congrats! Great spec, and great color. I don't think I've seen Cognac with BG yet, interested to check it out.

For a minute there I thought I had posted this and just forgot about doing it because I ordered the exact same spec and this will also be my first BMW

Why this car? For me I was looking at an Audi S3 for about the same money but after test driving both I was sold on the M240i. I also looked at waiting for an Audi RS3 which should be more comparable to the M240i but it has been delayed until at least April and dealer games discouraged me.

Nice, great minds think alike.

I chose this car over the competition due to cost/value/performance/design/features. The m240 is an amazing package for the cost - that is if one is willing to forego some practicality.

I had a Golf R which is basically an S3 in a VW shell. The m240 outperforms it by a wide margin, even the with new Golf R on the way (it has only 315hp/295ftlb). Not to mention its a FWD biased AWD system. I liked the idea of BMW rear drive biased Xdrive system. The new Golf R also has NO buttons (I cannot get along with that). Lastly, the price. With the M240 in the spec I chose, it was significantly cheaper than a similarly spec'd S3/RS3.

The RS3 has an amazing motor but I couldn't justify the price difference. Not to mention the new one isn't released yet. So I didn't want to wait too long as the value of my current vehicle is much more than I paid. I wanted to take advantage of the elevated trade value while they are still around. I can see them going away as supply chains normalize over the next couple of quarters.

This describes almost my exact same decision to get the m240. The mk8 Golf R was my planned upgrade but the disastrous UI and button decisions, as well as the feedback of obvious interior cost cutting felt like getting the m240 for 5k more was a "steal" for the added power.

Same exact situation here. The quality of the materials that they used in the MK8 don't look any better than what's in my GLI and the infotainment setup is tragic. I was super excited for the MK8 R when they first announced it, but after those details, spending a little extra to get a B58 and rear-biased AWD became a no-brainer.

Now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that my G42 goes into production next week as planned.

Yeah the lack of buttons is disturbing.

Additionally, I had a hell of a time getting a VW dealer to call me back. I reached out to multiple dealerships about the possibility of ordering a Golf R and no response.

Thats when I started looking around, stumbled across the m240i and it seems perfect for me. Glad to be joining the BMW family, I know they have a lot of fans out there.

I called a few area VW dealerships in May and asked to be put on a "list" for the Golf R. I ordered my m240 on Sept 8th and the VW dealer in Charlotte called the week after to take my request for color and transmission, and take my deposit. They couldn't give any kind of delivery date and I decided I didn't want to deal with any markups by the dealer or any waiting, since I already knew my final price with discounts with the BMW. I know I lucked out more than most getting my m240 in early November, but if I understand correctly, VW is keeping all mk8 cars at the Baltimire port until they reach enough volume to deliver everyone's orders, which will be sometime in 2022.

I have almost the same spec on order as of Tuesday.

Same exterior but went with the "Tacora Red" leather, added the upgraded stereo, and chose the performance non-RFT tires.

I will add a set of winter wheels and tires when it's closer to delivery.

Ironically, a year ago I had an Audi S4 in Nardo Gray with red leather. So apparently I really like this color combo.

Debated the purple exterior at length, but thought I would get tired of it fast.

I was just notified today my production week is 2 of 2022. My dealership feels like it would be mid-Feb as an estimated date of arrival. For some reason, I think it'll probably be a bit longer. Which is okay, I wouldn't mind a delivery time after winter.
