Lexus IS500
Disclaimer: No one if any is cross-shopping this and the G80 M3.
The 500 is more of an M340i competitor. But I couldn't resist "trying" the V8 while waiting for my M3. I have never really been a Lexus guy or fan until I started seeing these 21 + on the road. They got presence. First Lexus product but positively surprised. Soft but makes it a peach to daily. And that 5.Oh! Fun to drive in RWD.

I've had 3 Lexus IS's before. 1 250 and 2 350s.
The IS500 is bizarre to me. I don't hate it, I just don't get it. It's sort of an attempt to revive the ISF but with Lexus only dipping their toe in. Why does the IS500 look so generic? Where's the aggressiveness? I like that they dumped a V8 in it, but the styling is so bland (yes, I know it has quad tips and a raised hood). Just an oddball to me. Either go all in on it or leave it be. Wonder how they'll sell. |

That being said I still love it... NA 5.0L V8 that loves to growl wrapped in a super good looking car... if it didn't have so many shortcomings as a car in general I'd legitimately consider it.

Ran into one on the highway, the other day, while driving my G82x. I only saw it for a second.

Hard pass, bigger grill than M3 M4. Too soft a ride.

I've had USAA, since 1995, and my G82 is my 17th car insured with them, and the only thing I've ever claimed was 2 windshields, and 1 lockout, about 15 years ago.

A member in my club picked one one up. Nice looking car. Fun for what it is. Its alittle late as this is pretty much the same IS from 2015 though. My wife had a is250 Fsport. Nice daily. I dont think it will do well enough for Lexus to warrant making a full F model. This is along the line of a M340i.

I've seen a local IS500 in the nardo grey/grey black type color and I actually think it's a very good looking car. Aggressive, but also a "sleeper" - the quad exhaust looks nice.
I definitely would not cross shop the IS500 with the M3/4. I'm honestly not sure if I would even cross shop it with the M340i. Seems like a direct "attack" on the Infiniti Q50/60 "red sport" with 400hp. I'd probably have the Lexus over the Infiniti (and my first car, which I have some nostalgia/fondness of, was a 2009 G37S sedan). I feel like Infiniti has gone the wrong way with their new cars since then (although the new Nissan Z appears to be a winner in that market!)

I think the 08-14 IS-F, with its flared out front fenders, looks much better.
Lexus played it way too safe with IS500's styling.
