09 e92 iDrive4/Logic 7 USB Ports questions
My 09 e92 is equipped with the new IDrive and the Logic 7 Sound System with USB Audio Integration.
I have two USB ports, one is located in the glove compartment, and the other in the centre console. What's the difference between the two of them? From what I read, the one in the glove box should work with an iPod and the one in the centre console can also work with an iPod or memory stick ect. Is this correct? I've tried connecting an iPod Touch and iPhone and neither of them work. Connecting either to the centre console results in an unrecongized error, plugging it into the glove box just doesn't seem to do anything? I know there is a special Y-Cable for the centre console is this still required with the 09 updates or am I missing something? What is the full use for both ports? |

You need the Y cable (I have an extra one, let me know if you are interested - it's brand new).
In your use case, the USB port in the glove box is only used to transfer files from a memory stick. You can't attach an iPod directly to either.
