N47 HPFP codes/ WATER CONTAMINATED DIESEL

Hey all just had an issue yesterday with my car which I believe may be leading to the fuel pump or contaminated diesel(hoping not) but wanted some verification before moving forward.

Was on my street about 100 yards from my house on my car died and just stopped in the middle of the street, ended up pushing in parking and when I was able to go back and use Beamer link to scan the codes this is what popped up. I have the extended 120K mile warrannty(currently at 116,000 miles), But I know the HPFP for the N47 Is eligible for replacement under certain VIN’s(did a quick Vin check for my car and it didn’t pop up)

Car is currently parked and will be towed to the dealer sometime today and hopefully I can hear back

Edit: cant upload picture from but here are the codes:

247500-rail pressure plausabillity

271C00-rail pressure control valve

241200-injection quantity monitoring

2C1E00-over the permissable range

280DD-nox sensor infront of denox kat nox signal invalid for too long

248900-rail pressure low

Nearly all of the time HPFP failure starts with fuel contamination of some sort. Minor contamination will allow the HPFP to survive a little, heavier contamination will be quicker.

Your codes are quite specific for HPFP issues, but it can also be an odd LPFP issue.

I figured I’d start with the most logical idea which would be the HPFP, but I’m not ruling out the low pressure fuel pump either. I won’t know until I can hopefully get it towed to the dealer because I can’t even drive the car. I’m in the process of jacking the car up to disable the transmission safety lock.

Starting to think it’s also just bad diesel

As diesel prices rise it will be tempting to find the cheapest diesel in your area…steer clear of low use stations just to save a couple of bucks.

I usually have 3-4 branded gas stations i fill up at (usually 2 sunoco or 2 exxon mobile gas stations) and always try to fill up at those same ones. This one i filled up at an exxon mobile i usually fill up at and was about 215 or so miles into the tank

Ive been seeing more about the bad gas/shady gas stations

Update: the dealer called and said the fuel pump module went bad. I asked if thats covered under the extended warranty for the fuel pump(im still within the 120k miles range)

Edit: the tech said the both the low pressure fuel pump and high pressure arent getting gas. Would everything be covered u der the extended warranty or am I SOl out of the low pressure scenario?

If true, then this is a good scenario. It's unusual though.

The module isn't expensive used, but it can be a few hundred new. It's used across a large range of BMWs, so it's easy to find.

One such example https://www.ebay.com/itm/144474365324

Thanks for that, the dealer said they need to replace the lpfp/module first to see if fixes half for the full problem, sucks for $1300 out of pocket

Replacement is their diagnostic tactic??

That can get expensive quickly.

Did they pull the metering unit in the HPFP to inspect for corrosion/water/signs of damage?
That would be a quick and free diagnostic test.

I don't mean the module. The fuel pump control module is most likely fine, despite what they say.

I mean the HPFP. Did they pull the control solenoid off to see inside. That is quite specific.

But then again, I guess an LPFP can die.
Maybe they have more details. I've met some good techs, and some really bad ones.

They said there was no damage on the inside of the solenoid,

But now they said that the diesel is contaminated

You should go pull your own sample and have it independently tested, as they will claim user error and you'll be on the hook for the bill, no matter what repairs are needed.

Trust me, I've had this happen and while you can sometimes get your insurance company involved, it it still expensive and time-consuming.

Go grab a sample from the tank, have the tech show you the report they got from the lab that shows what the fuel is contaminated with; don't just buy their word.

My stomach is knotted for you... Good luck.

Thanks, I managed to grab a sample of the diesel from the tech that looked at my car so I’m going to send it off to be analyzed hopefully around Monday

Forgot to mention: the tech did the styrofoam cup test and it wasnt eaten up, he showed me and i took pictures, but will still be sending out the sample i got
For testing

Talked to the shop foreman at my dealer and he said that theres metal in the volume control valve in the HPFP

. Their putting the new LPFP in and talking to BMW engineering but I told him my car still is eligible for the HPFP warranty extension because im inside the 120k mile range
