I have a 2023 M3 Competition arriving this month. My dealer added a "BMW Protection Package" to my order that was not originally agreed to nor was it in the bill of sale I signed when I ordered back in February/March. The package is $3990 and includes ceramic coating on the entire car and XPEL on the full front bumper, fenders, hood, mirror caps. I told my SA to remove this as I can get this done for a lot cheaper elsewhere and he informed me that this is a mandatory option because the dealer doesn't have a markup like other dealers do. Has anyone else experienced this? Car was ordered from Calgary BMW if that helps.

Didn't this just happen to someone else?

Call their bluff and see why they do

He said they require the package if I want the car. I obviously want the car but feel like they're screwing me now.

You are 100% being screwed. Very shady business practice. I would be extremely pissed. Don’t accept it. Maybe ask to speak to a higher up.

A few times dealers have tried to do this to me but I never accepted it and they ended up removing it.

Totally a crappy move by dealer.

I will talk to my SA on Monday. I fear he is going to tell me take back my deposit and walk away. Both dealers in Calgary are owned by the same owner so not like I can go order from someone else.

Dick move, tell the dealer you'll be paying whatever is on your bill of sale not theirs, you didn't sign their bill of sale. If he doesn't like that tell him to shove the ceramic coating up his ass.

They are screwing you. My best guess is talk to the sales manager, as it's probably them pushing the CA's to push these dumb mandatory protection packages to increase dealership profit, or maybe just email the dealership GM or owner. Either way, still shady af

What a scam! There should be no markup on MSRP for new cars in Canada, so they can’t justify it with that excuse. I’d escalate it to management and if that doesn’t work then BMW Canada.

Update: Talked to the sales manager and he said there's no such requirement and that they will remove the package. Salesman was trying to force me to buy the package. Going to get PPF done from another shop for much cheaper.

Good news. Where are you taking it for PPF?

When I placed an order for an M3 from Calgary BMW back in April, my SA had no problem removing the PPF package from the order. I am glad to hear that they removed this package from your order.

Planning to take it to Wraptors but calling around to see if I can get better pricing.

Good to hear, my sales guy wanted to add ppf/ceramic on my order to guarantee the prices and you can take it off when the car arrives, I'm like I don't think so.
