Replace tailgate lift struts with manual gas springs

My tailgate had problems not opening or closing properly. It would stop at intermediate positions. I decided to change it over to a completely manual operation.

Wow, this is great! I am having an intermittent issue with the power liftgate on my F34 GT. First it started groaning occasionally. Lately, it seems to have a mind of it’s own whether or not it will open or close when pressing the remote button or on the dash button. Replacement or repair of the powered struts seems very expensive and perhaps this is the best solution.

What is annoying for me now is it takes a lot of force to overcome the powered struts when it doesn’t want to work - far more than just the weight of the hatch and it’s very inconvenient.
