So I was running the Ross racing kit, I have a one car garage and the wife was complaining about smell, so I removed it and sold it, I’m revisiting an idea I’ve seen in the old e36 days. Other platforms do it but looking for any disadvantages of this.

I would take my mid pipe, weld a bung in and run the dump tube to the exhaust. Thoughts on this? Bad idea? Good idea for my situation? Would this solve the smell issue?

Ross kit does smell bad. I had one. Took it off and went back to stock style with the diaphragm. I always thought about running the hose to the intake so the turbo just draws it in.

That would be a good idea as well, just wasn’t sure how much vacuum would be pulled from the intake, vs the exhaust scavenge effect. Hmmm

I had that kit for 6 months and didn’t even get 1 drop of oil out of the drain. I think the stock pcv is fine as is. It’s worth carrying a extra diaphragm in your trunk and swapping it out when needed or doing it once a year as a preventative maintenance.

Ya the Ross kit is amazing, I had to sell it because wife didn’t like smell, I’m re entertaining plumbing it to eliminate smell either through exhaust or intake.

It’s been done before, definitely old school and something you don’t see often.

I just started using the Ross Racing VTA kit. Install was relatively easy. It is true, the stench is noticeable from the inside especially during cold weather. However, I already have a catless DP so the smell does not completely bother me

Ya for sure the smell doesn’t bother me but my wife does take the car for a joy ride here and there, it’s are 3rd car/weekend/fun car but she wants it “clean” so I’m putting an AA catted downpipe in and if I can route the fumes of the vta set up through exhaust to limit odor, I think this will work.
Personally I don’t care but I can’t deal with her complaining every weekend about this stuff anymore.

u cant route it to the front passenger (so it smells on passenger side) , it doesnt have to go over the engine and below.

Ya for sure, I played with routing, it just fills the garage up with fumes when the car is first started or parked, and it lingers.
Really just trying to keep it undetectable to the wife so I can have the benefits and not the smell.

I think routing to exhaust will still produce smell given the exhaust system isn’t going to be hot enough to burn it off completely but thinking if it’s a significant reduction and redirected out through exhaust I may be ok.

I think running it anywhere into the intake will pull way too much vacuum for it to be what I want. So this seems very limited to the exhaust routing.

How about the PCV delete solution from VTTO (vargas turbo)? (okay, i know, nm the drama with the owner of VTTO for the moment...) Vargas solution caps the top at the low side (with PCV delete, eliminates the failure point with diaphragm). Catches the high side (with OCC). And has VTA with check valve at the oil cap. This seem like a good balance between "catching and recirculating" and "stopping" through VTA.

I too am running catless AA DP, and not want to go 2x the stench with bunch of VTA tubes, not to mention not doing service tech any favor with the VTA fumes coming right at the face while working on the car with engine on.

Thoughts?
