Using Factory Cameras as Dashcam
Does anyone know if it’s possible to use the factory backup camera and the 360 cameras as dash cams? I’m looking to buy a dash cam system, but wondered if there was any way to record the video from the existing cameras on my car.
My biggest issue with the dash cam is that I can’t capture the rear view since I drive a convertible. Most rear cameras would mount on the rear windshield, but that isn’t an option for me and I don’t want to install the camera above the license place since the backup camera is already there. |

I doubt it. A signal splitter could send the signal to the recording device, but you'd also need to have the camera constantly powered. My assumption is that it's only powered up when in use. I think this falls into the category of 'if you have to ask how to do it you probably don't have the skills required to do it'. If there was an easy plug and play option someone would be marketing it.

The following is like apples and oranges, because you have a factory cam setup and I have an MMI with aftermarket rear and front cam. I also have a dashcam with an optional rear cam input. The aftermarket cam is powered up via CANbus command read by the MMI, but it also has an option to power it up via a wire connection to the rear reverse light.
So, it could be setup where the after market rear cam powers up when the car is running/accessory ON and then Y-off into the dashcam rear cam input port. Some concerns: 1. weak video signal due to split signal 2. aftermarket rear cam was not designed to be on (powered up) all the time..may overheat/burn out

Get one of these, which gives you a front and rear dash cam, and when the top is up you can actually see to the rear. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0811Q28N6...A2KR0J0CK34VOC
