Question Style 188 vs 189 - For All-Season/Winter Use

Hey Everyone,

I'm in the market for an E92. I'm hoping to get one soon, however, I will wait out if need be for the right car. I have a few questions concerning tires. At the moment, I'm leaning toward CPO, and the dealer seemed uneducated about some of the questions I had.

Foremost, what is a staggered set up? One where the rear tires are of different sizes compared to the front tires?

Style 189:
1. I notice there are performance tires on these. I'll need to change them come November-ish. Is there a pair of All-seasons that work with this car? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...=54100&tab=All Is this what I would go for? These do not appear to be RFT? Would the BMW Dealership have All-Seasons available to put on these tires, despite them coming with performance tires stock?

2. Would you need to order tires of different sizes (front vs rear)? Or can I have the same size tire all-around? This way, I could just rotate the tires at certain maintainence appointments?

3. Is it easy to damage the rim?

Style 188:
1. Again, can you put the same size tire on this rim? Or is it preferred to be a variation in sizes?

2. They come with All-Season RFTs. Do these handle well in some snow/ice? I'm not looking to trek through a mountain, but definitely through a few inches of snow in a hilly region (3"-4")

Any info re: RFTs and how to deal with tires aimed toward sportyness for the winter would be appreciated. I do encounter snow, but not all the times. I could get by on All-Seasons and would prefer to, if possible. If anyone would have advice regarding a setup for this, it'd be appreciated. Especially one that could be done conveniently at the dealership. However, I could make it to a Tire Shop if need be.

I am trying to gain as much knowledge I can before I make a purchase. I would like to thank you guys for your help and look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks

Staggered setup is determined by a wider wheel or tire, either up front or rear. Depending on which car; lets say BMW, most people put wider REAR wheels and tires for additional traction for the RWD system.

For a winter setup, it would be most ideal to run a less wider tire for more traction. Most run a "non-staggered" all around for their snows.
