Question AMG In Terms Of Durability, Liability, and Longevity?

comparing c63 and e92 m3 together which do you guys think is better in the long run, ie past 50k miles but <100k for refrence.

i know the m3 engines are built like race engines from the pistons, shafts, etc but is that so for the amg engine as well? sorry im a newb with amg .

i know the amg engines are each hand made by a single guy but what about the components themselves?

and how is the c63 able to get crazy gains from just a tune like 50/60whp? i know it is a market strat with a detuned engine but is the engine capable to handle that extra gain for long term?

all this is with proper maintainence of course ie oil change, etc.

the only thing handmade on either of these cars are the engines. the rest of the components are right off the factory line. even the engines aren't truly handmade though, they're just assembled by hand. either way you look at it, AMG's or M's are mass produced cars and a full hand building/assembly would send the costs astronomical.

the c63 gets such a power gain from a tune because merc detunes their engines based on how much you spend on the car. that's not what they'll tell you, but just go up the line on the 63 AMG's. the more $$$ you spend, the more power you'll be getting stock from the exact same engine.

but, in all honesty, and this is probably going to make a few people's eyes bleed, but if i were only allowed one high performance car to choose and drive forever, i'd probably get a merc because of the creature comforts. i love my M, but if i had to drive it everyday for 10+ years, i would be sick of it and all the electronic gremlins would drain my pocketbook getting them fixed.

I wouldn't sweat the long term reliability of the big Merc engine, but the M engine I'm a little unsure of. It's high strung.

dude you need to go to a merc forum or something they'll probably have more knowledge about the merc. Also a lot of comments here will be biased as will they be on the merc forum but then you can compare both of them from both sides....

The long term reliability of the C63 should be great. The engine has been out for several years, and the drive train have all been proven in the higher model 63s. Just get the extended warranty if you plan to keep it for longer. The only thing sucks is that it does not have free maintenance any more (not since MY05).

I would be more concerned about the tranny than the engine....get the M with a manual...autos are so unpredictable for longevity

is the largest MB forum i think.

its hit or miss with reliability with both cars. If anything goes wrong with either one you would probably wish u had the other.

Cant go wrong with either

The C63 is good as a luxo cruiser and occasional sporty driving whereas the M is more of a track ready car. For day to day driving, I would pick the AMG over the M as well. Too bad they didn't offer Keyless Go on the '09 models or else I would have bought the C63 already.
