And what does it provide that ours don't? I also don't see the automatic option?

I'm tempted to say it changes the *level* of the headlights (for those with AHL xenons), but I'm curious if that really works for our North American cars or not?

The extra switch of the rear fog light which is use in Europe.

That switch looks different, I dont think that will work with the e92 at least, I am not sure about the e90/93. Since I have the e92 and I bought a "similar" switch when I was in Germany.

This is how the foglight should look like...

You are correct, that's what I was told that switch on the side does. Although, I cannot confirm this as I have never actually installed this switch.

You are right, no auto on option on this unit.
