Don't like the non-RFT lost precision - BMW Performance Suspension or M3 bushings ?
Hi,
I switched my RFT tires to non-RFT (Bridgestone Potenza S001) and I don't really like the lost steering precision and rear-end feel. I don't feel the car as secure and predictable as before. I have done about 1000 miles with the new tires (should I allow more for break-in ?). However, I would like to continue to the non-RFT route in the future, and I was wondering, what are the most important suspension bits that can reverse this behaviour ? Would BMW Performance Suspension improve this, or do I need to upgrade the subframe bushings ? I would definitely don't want to do both because the suspension would become too stiff and this is one of the reasons I gave up RFTs. Thanks !

M3 control arms, tension arms, and bushings would make a night and day difference. Then some spring & shock combo or coilovers. Also some tires are more precision in steering than others. The Advan Neova AD08 is one the best steerin precision but they are very pricey tires.

Then just upgrade the shocks to Koni Sports, FSD or Bilstein.

The M3 control arms will improve steering feel without adversely affecting ride quality. The rear subframe bushings tighten things up, but add a tiny amount of harshness.
I suggest that your problem primarily stems from your tire choice. B-stone RE-11s, Dunlop Direzza Z1s, or Yoko AD08/07s would provide much better handling, albeit with a stiffer and noisier ride. Since you have to live with your S001s for a while, I suggest experimenting with tire pressure to improve handling. And yes, the BMW Perf dampers and springs will greatly improve roll, dive, etc.

strange the S001 are brand new ultra sport tires from bridgestone, they are winning all tests... and they are the successor of the famous S-03
I am running S-03, the side wall is so stiff as the RFT and the steer precision is so sharp! but S001 is still to be discovered.... |
