Brake Squeal

Does removing the brake pad sensors eliminate the squeal? I had new rear pads and sensors installed a year ago and new front pads and sensor installed 2 months ago and still squealing. Anyone have any other options? Has anyone tried to disconnect the sensor and zip tie it out of the way?

All Bmw parts installed and it still squeals. Rear was done by Dealer in Pa and the fronts were done by a bmw tech off premise.

I have a '05 330i which I've had for almost two months now and quite early on I started to hear the infamous brake sensor squeal - freaked me out at first but then thought I'd research it before I go into panic mode! Well one of the reasons why I found this forum - so many with the same problem and from what I've read there's not too much that can be done to eliminate this, permanently that is...

I've noticed that whenever I wash my car there is a LOT of brake dust that comes off the rear brakes compared to the front - and I am actually quite gentle on my brakes, as in I don't throw the anchors out all that often. And the brake sensor that I am hearing must be the one of the rear which is on the right hand side - I think the other one is on the front left hand side, but for now it seems to be silent (let's not talk too loudly though). Would be great if there is a proper solution to solve this - I am not worried too much about it knowing that it's not a hazard or brake fault as such, but let's face it, it's quite embarrassing to arrive at your destination all looking good and then sheepishly squeaking along! LOL

I removed my sensors zip tied and still had the squeal, others say they removed did the same and it fixed the squeal. I think it might just be the pad and the dealer not putting anti squeal on the back of them possibly.

Sometimes you need to bed in your brake pads in order to get rid of brake squeals. Here are instructions on how to:

Okay but hang on, are we talking about the same thing? On my car the only time the brakes squeal a bit is when I reverse out of my garage. It's when the brakes are relatively warm that at low speeds with your foot off the brake pedal that you hear the squeal which is apparently caused by the brake wear sensor rubbing against the disk...

Give them a good flush out with a water hose next time you clean the car to clear dust and debris.

Take it up to frreway speeds and HIT THEM HARD until almost stopped.
Get it near the ABS kicking in, but not quite.
Repeat this tiem after time (maybe five times 70 to 10mph) and drive around to cool them right down and go to bed.
Next day see if its fixed

Being gentle on brakes can cause them to glaze over (shiny).
Squeal normally means increased wear. Some harder race pads do this until they get properly hot and in 'the zone'

I dont get the electric wear sensor thing...
It's so small I don't believe it will make a noise.

And besides - until the pad is half worn its nowhere near the disc anyhow!

I've tried to bed the brakes and still had the squeal. Today when I washed the car I sprayed it very well to try and get off any brake dust. I have a squeal when in reverse of drive at low speeds when the brakes are warmed up. Its very embarassing. I am taking it a a bmw tech I know who is gonna disconnect and zip tie the sensors. I figure its worth a shot at this point. I will post results next week after they are removed.

lol have you tried taking your pads out and reappling anti-squeal to the back of the pads? I have a squeak as well but I don't have the space to work on my car in Philly I'll be going to my home in Jersey this weekend though so maybe I'll find some time.

I know this is an old thread but I thought it may help someone who googled their way here.

I had the same annoying noise. It mainly happens when I get to near stop and then I would hear the squeak follow by slight grinding metal. I can only hear the grinding metal noise when I'm near a wall though. It's very appearent when I'm pulling into an underground parking garage cuz of the downhill. The sound only came from my left front wheel.

Took it in for service and they took a look. The sensor is touching the rotor but all the brake components are within specs. The sensor was weird looking though. It has a "dome" but on top of that dome, there like a "fin". The tech file down the fin about 1mm and the squeak and metal grinding was totally eliminated.

So in my case, it was 100% the sensor causing the squeaking. Hope this helps someone.

I have the same issue as OP. I have had my pads replaced twice at the dealer and within a month the squeak comes back. It is really annoying to have this nice hooked up car squeaking at speeds under 30.

I have tried the hard braking and that eliminates the problem for a few days..
