European Delivery 101

Can a good soul please explain, in layman terms, how the European Delivery works, what are the pros & cons, etc? I see lots of ppl doing it, and I'm wondering why is so popular.

you pay less for the car if u do euro delivery i think. u pick up ur car in germany, you get to look at the bmw facilities and u can explore germany and surrounding areas. then when ur done ur trip u can drop off ur bmw at the shipping facility to get it shipped back to ur country.

i would only do euro delivery if i was going on vacation in germany.

You order the car in US, you fly to Munich to pick up, drive for up to 2 weeks then drop it off and BMW bring it back to your dealer or BMW Performance center
Here are some of my POI's:
1. 7% saving on the car
2. free car in Europe for up to two weeks, headache free. bmw provides insurance as well
3. 14 drop off centers throughout europe so anywhere you go there is adrop off location near by
4. have to make it part of vacation, otherwise not worth the plane/hotel tickets
5. AUTOBAHN!!! in your car (no speed limit)
6. BMW plant/museum tours are very nice
7. experience a road trip in Europe and realize how good people drive compared to us (i'm comparing to NYC so bare with me)
8. Do it through a know dealer that know how this process works, a lot of paperwork and one mistake and you will not get the car
9. If traveling in the winter you will need to rent winter tires if going north or into the mountains

that's it in a nut shell...going to pick up my car in few weeks so did some research

One question on similar lines, maybe to help OP or even others.

If you are leasing and you do ED (which I assume you can), your lease begins from the time you sign papers are the local dealer, correct? Or from the time you pick up car in Munich.

Begins when you sign the papers with the dealership. Rule says to sign 14 days before pick up I think. But if your CA is knowledgeable that can be extended to even 3 days before pick up(at least that was the case for me)

For lease, yes. But not for standard purchase.

The ED department is crazy about all the paperwork and runarounds. Its a tough process, get a dealer that knows what they're doing

Why? the car is supposed to be upside down (those from M3post will get the inside joke).
Hence the 'upside down braking"

I did ED last year, picked up on August 20, it was a very cool experience. The "other bimmer forum" has a very active discussion board dedicated to ED with a pretty informative Wiki and FAQ, I recommend checking it out. There are also board sponsor dealers over there that are experts at ED (like, 20-30 ED deals per month) and who have fixed "invoice + $xxx" pricing. I worked with Adrian Avila in Atlanta, he was great. Send me a PM if you don't know what the other forum is.
