2013 335 M-Sport to 2016 340 M-Sport - First Impressions
I've only had the new car for a couple of days, but here's some initial thoughts comparisons going from more obvious to more subtle.
Engine/Power - Holy hell, was not expecting this. When I got to the dealership to take delivery, he said it was still at the detailer down the road. He'd give me a ride over and I could drive it back to do the paperwork. I ALWAYS drove my 335 in Sport mode and always felt the throttle response was weak when in comfort. So I was surprised when I was driving the 340 back in Comfort and the thing just felt like it was pulling me forward. Engine sound - Definitely throatier. Love it. Steering - I had read good things about the LCI and was pleasantly surprised to find that putting the car in Sport Mode now very noticeably tightens the steering. So far so good. LED headlights - Haven't gotten to drive at night yet, but they look very nice even in the daylight. Nav/Computer/Display update - I know this was introduced in 2014, but I missed it. The updated graphics and processing is very nice. I love how the Sirius/XM now pulls down album cover art! I-Drive control with touch - This is kinda neat. Not a huge deal. Blue M-Sport Calipers - Very nice touch! Although they were just a bit bigger than my 335 and I found my winter wheels no longer had enough room to fit over so I had to order 19's for a winter set. Climate Display - So they changed from red to white during the day. Ok, sure. Extended Display - They moved the clock! After 11 years and 5 Bimmers, this is going to take some getting used to. MT Rev Matching - Wow - was not expecting this. Got so used to manually rev matching on down shifts that this will take some getting used to as well, but so far a very nice feature. Works well regardless of speed. I only cringe at the thought of getting used to this only to one day get in someone else's car and grind the gears because I'm not used to rev matching anymore. Misc - Hood contours are a bit different and I like it. Noticed a lack of glove compartment USB port - no big deal. Noticed a clip in the trunk roof to hold open the storage flap if needed - very thoughtful design and I've already appreciated it. That's about it. I kept the EB2 over Coral Red because I loved it so damned much on my 2013 and didn't want to give it up. Kept the black kidney grill, but decided to balance front and back by getting the black spoiler lip. Love it! Makes it just look a bit more aggressive. After leasing 5 Bimmers, I decided to take the plunge and finance this one and have no regrets so far. I think I'll be keeping her for a while.

My car is going through the English Channel right now at about two knots-per-hour. (You can live-track the ship your car is on, including how "fast" the cargo vessel is going.) At this rate, it'll be here sometime in September.

Google for Panama Canal Web Cams. For my 2013 and 2016 I was actually able to see the shipping vessels pass through the channel locks!

They are closing the canal for repairs for a few months. Hopefully no canal pirates take it.

Nice review! My mom just got one of these (same specs as yours), and driving it over the past couple weeks is what made me decide to get an f80 m3. Love the steering feel, throttle response, and overall ride quality. Leaps and bounds better than her 335i (non m-sport).
Cheers!

Just a comment on this... This exists on my current 2013 328i, you didn't have this on your 2013 335i? Maybe you just didn't notice it?

Ordered it with the car. I believe it's done at port along with the black kidney grill.
There were three options, same paint color as the car, carbon fiber, or black. I thought the black would look good with the M-Sport black door trim and black kidney grills. It was also the cheapest which was nice!

https://www.2wglobal.com/webapps?fra...uickSearchPage On this next site, in the search box with the magnifying glass labeled "Name, MMSI, IMO, C", type in your ship's name and hit "enter". Once your ship's basic information comes up, look for the column labeled "Lastest Position" and click on the blue box in the column. This brings up a world map with hundreds of "ships". Yours will be in a dotted box. You can either scroll over it to see how fast it's going, or click on it for additional information. http://www.marinetraffic.com/en/ais/index/ships/all |

Was wondering the same thing as my 2013 also has the clip to hold up the trunk floor.

Well damn, maybe I'm just blind and didn't realize it for the last three years. Only noticed it this time by accident.
