Can you repair carbon fibre
Gutted.
First slight damage to my car. Reversing against a wall with overhang my sensors said yes when the wall said no. Only very very slight mark to CF spoiler but wondering if you can get them repaired and re-laquered |

It may be sanding and lacquer job - no chunks missing. It may certainly make it better. It's filthy from 00's miles this week so will clean properly at weekend and get better look. Is this doable at home or professional job? |

The shine in carbon fibre on car trim is caused by excess resin used in the lay up of the material. This incidentally makes it slightly weaker, somewhat heavier but much better aesthetically. As a result if you have just grazed the spoiler you might only have damaged the excess resin part. You might well be able to get away with polishing it, however be very careful as the resin is quite soft and any form of abrasive will quite quickly cut through it. Once you're into the actual carbon things get a bit more complicated, repairs are usually very visible and a proper high quality repair will require material of the same original specification - which might be difficult to obtain. In order to get the required finish you'd want to vacuum bag the repair as well.

Go find a boatbuilder. One who works with Fibreglass. He will have the necessary skills and compounds to sand it down, fill it if needed and re-finish the clear coat like new.
That's where I've previously gone and never regretted it. Always been able to get it done nice and cheap too... |

I was talking to my detailer about CF and he said that its the best use of something like ventureshield- metal and plastic can be repainted easily but CF is a total pain when it gets damaged. He advises all his clients with CF wings, mirrors, splitters to get at least those parts protected.
He had a customer with a rear wing on his Gallardo that get absolutely wrecked, and it needed replaced when it was sold.... Replacement cost of a Lambo CF wing would have paid for a full body ventureshield several times over!

Damage is not so bad as replacing luckily I don't think, my thumbnail removed a lot of the visible damaged marks and I'll try a polish over weekend by hand,
Luckily I was crawling otherwise could have been spoiler and boot repair which would have really upset me. Shows the tape used is pretty sticky too. |

Lol try carbon fibre composites when people shoot holes through it lol. It might make aircraft lighter, however it's bullet proof it ain't. We had loads of people on harrier, do manufacture carbon fibre repair and manufacture courses, then leave and join Formula 1 etc lol. |
