E85 question ?
Hi all
Im new to m235 and have some super noob question. My M235 build 08/2014 ( i think it come with Electronic Waste gate) , and i just put JB4 stage 2 on. My question is : can i use E85 with JB4 as only mod ? for M235 as i remember the fuel tank hold 13.5 gallons. If i mix it, can i do 10 gal 93oct and 3.5 gal E85 ? |

Gonna have to try it. EWG cars normally don't like E85. E30 seems to be about the highest you can go. Put it in and see what happens (of course, log it).

I'd suggest reading up on the N55/JB4/E85 discussions on N54tech.com. According to Terry, you shouldn't use more than 30% E85 on EWG N55 cars and map 2. Keep in mind that a downpipe is suggested for map 2.
Make sure you have the EWG and flex fuel wires too.

Just keep in mind that BMW specifically says not to use E85 - it is corrosive to some of the seals in the system and is hygroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture/condensation and can introduce water into the injectors. If you're looking for increased octane, there are several good off-the-shelf octane boosters that won't harm your fuel system with prolonged use.
Also - depending on where you live, even your 93 octane gas can have up to 10% ethanol right at the pump. And, since ethanol has 30% less thermal efficiency than gasoline, your fuel mileage will be reduced to some extent.

There is not a single "good off-the-shelf octane booster that won't harm your fuel system with prolonged use." The only ones which do anything are the ones with MMT, and even then the effect is not significant. Have a look at what MMT does to your fuel system with prolonged use. The ones without MMT are just means of additional revenue from 16 year-olds who think a can of octane booster will make mom's Camry faster. |

Hey, it's your $50K+ car - feel free to do whatever you feel will get you that extra 1/10th of a second at the drag strip.

Same can be said about tuning the car but i am assuming you do that too. BMW does not recommend adding boost over stock targets There are no significant power gains to be had from adding ethanol to your fuel unless you are raising boost way beyond the safe limit where additional octane is required to lower the intake air temps and keep detonation from occurring I wonder how you know what is the safe limitsfor boost ? since datalogs show that the car handles the extra boost with no problem. Oh and by the way, E85 at least for the N54 adds around 40whp to the car.

Only thing I miss about my N54 335i is switching to the E85 map on my Cobb AP.
You can easily make another 40-50 WHP with E85/93Oct mix. Which on a drag strip can get you another .4-.5sec faster in the quarter mile. N54 can take all it's fueling problems and suck it though. I'd never go back to an N54, that vehicle was the definition of wallet rape. |

BMS recommends not using more then E30.. But I've stepped up to E40 and send the logs in to Terry and he says everything looks good
