Just bumping this thread up again, as I'd like to hear from anyone who has done a big turbo upgrade on the b48.
I'm building a Mini Cooper S track car, motor being used is the later model B48 with 10.2:1 compression (20 and 25i from memory). I've done a lot of research on Pure Turbos, Big Boost and others and its virtually impossible to find anyone with a proper experience with these. I've found Big Boost really unhelpful when it comes to info, no conformation of sizes, physical differences to stock (which are essential if I am going to fit one in a Mini). The fact they supply so much with their kit is a bonus though. |

Personally i haven't heard of anyone running it really, i know they were developed but everytime I try to look for examples, or uses I haven't come across anyone actively running these kits sadly.

Bumping this thread as my 2018 430i with a JB4 w/ intake and DP is running a stage 2 tune. But its coming out of warranty and looking to upgrade the turbo. Has anyone started to play around with the B46/B48 turbo upgrades yet?

https://jmtcperformance.com/super-s-...er-2-l-engine/ It is bigger on both sides, but the intake side seems to be where the biggest gains are. Car is a Mini Cooper S, running the second gen B48 - same as the 30i BMW's I believe (10.2:1 compression). I have a "before dyno" figure, car is stage 2, running DP and large front mount intercooler, larger intake with 21 psi boost on 98 fuel. Our dynos in Australia read far lower than in the US (so pointless discussing the figure), but its the percentage increase which will be of interest. I'm trying to install BM3, but having a massive pain of a time, waiting on more tech support from PTF. VIN is being picked up by the agent but for whatever reason BM3 won't link my VIN to my account. The car was due to go on the dyno this Friday, but unless I get it going tomorrow evening that will be delayed. Car will be running on E85 with the larger turbo, I am hoping to achieve a 25% increase from the larger turbo and E85 combo. Fingers crossed |

bumping this thread. ive got a B48 with intake, chargepipe, and dowpipe. Running a JB4 on stage II with 91octane (all thats available in my area). It definitely gave me a nice jump on the butt dyno, but I'm also looking to be that unicorn and want to upgrade the stock turbo. I want to avoid the fuel upgrades and not put the internals to the limit and hopefully get to that 350whp range. From all things I've read so far, thats about what you should expect out of these motors without having to go fuel/internals.
Has anyone upgraded their turbo yet, and what kind of tune or mapping did you use? |

I will have to wait patiently I guess then. Using BM3 im guessing for the tune? Im just going to assume the JB4 with its stock maps aren't going to cut it once you upgrade the turbo.

Once this is done I'll finish up the videos and post them. Sorry, for the wait very busy these days and not enough time to make all the videos. Yes bm3 for the tune, I am do not think JB4 will be able to adjust turbine maps for the new turbo. Last edited by SRHosein; 11-11-2021 at 07:34 PM.. |

Did a nice 100-200 the other day on my Taiwanese hybrid, BM3 custom tune, XHP, and e30 fuel, actually I think I could get very close to 9s maybe even into the 8's, as I was not using full RPM, just in S+ mode that has the stock 6500 redline, I can only get the full 7000 RPM in M mode with XHP
FYI I am running stock exhaust, just air filter upgrade. I did the 60-120km in M mode using full 7000rpm, and also a very good time for a little 2L 15 deg timing, 26-27 psi, with 18 deg outside ambient temp I "think" that the stock bottom end can handle more if you keep the boost up high in RPM, I might try for a 30 psi glory run on e50 with set of new cup2 tires if I get the courage. |

Also will CP Carillo's forged pistons for the B48 fit in seamlessly into the B46? They're pretty much the same engine with just the SULEV thing right? |

400whp-450whp on a stock engine B46/B48 is possible with the right turbo, fueling, and tuning. These are the same engines as the B58 just 2 less cylinders. Do the math on what the B48 is capable. Its proportional. Check out the IM450 hybrid turbo upgrade. |
