Best aftermarket N20 Turbo
So I’m looking for a turbo upgrade for my N20s new built motor, I’ve been on the fence about the Shuenk N20 turbo however people say the spool times are quite long? I’m looking to do mainly 1/4 mile and 1/8th mile racing and was wondering if it’s worth ditching the 500 dollar tuning rebate for an MHI or Pure.

I am using a TTE400. The compressor wheel of the TTE400 is perhaps the largest among the hybrid turbos, so the turbine rotates less under the same pressure, which increases its lifespan.
I'm running at 28psi, 13 degrees ignition. Because of the AR, the hybrid turbo basically cannot exceed 28psi unless you lower the ignition or use a turbo like G25 or G30 My first N20 had a closed deck, and the second one had a wet cylinder liner. The stock cylinder is about 25psi which is the limit, and 30psi is almost the limit after the deck is closed. It is difficult for the coating to maintain durability under higher pressures. I have just dismantled my first closed deck N20 that has been used for 1 year. This engine can reach 24psi at 3000rpm and 28psi at 3500rpm, but the crankshaft has been slightly deformed. I believe it is the low rpm pressure that is too high. Even with forged pistons and forged rods, now I don't recommend reaching 23psi before 3500rpm because it puts a huge load on the crankshaft. I think it might be better to reach 28psi at 5000rpm. |

TTE400 will be the biggest turbo with the least amount of spool for 1/8, 1/4 on the market today.
If you want the FASTEST spool but are welcome to leaving power on the table (let’s say 25-30whp with ethanol mixes) MHI is decent but $$$ for the value it brings. TTE400 maxes out flow around 25psi. Anything more and it becomes a heat pump. I’d go tte400. Maverickcruze doesn’t know how to tune their car + things putting boost at the highest it can go means more boost = more power. This is not the case as it’s about max AIR FLOW through the turbo not boost aka restriction to get the turbo spinning fast enough. Crankshaft has been fine to take boost pressures over 35psi without issue if you have a turbo that flows that much air without adding crazy amounts of back pressure (tte400 is still a t3 family turbo and is very small). Thus .41 ar housing ratio you are limited to around 25 psi tops over 4000 rpm before it becomes a heat pump as you climb to peak power between 5800-6500 rpm. The more boost you give that turbo above 4000 rpm or so the more backpressure you generate and with backpressure comes heat which also comes with its own problems.

So the TTE is pretty good from what I’ve gathered here, I’m doing a semi closed deck with forged pistons and rods and the works. What’s the MAX psi you can get out of that turbo? I’m planning on doing E85 with it and and a good tune? Is the power boost very noticeable from stock or is it just slightly better?

You can in theory ask it to run 30psi but you won’t make power.
Ideally above 6200-6300 or so 21-23 psi is where you’d have the most air flow at peak power to make the most horsepower. Td04-19t compressor map (close enough to what the tte400 is spec’s on) http://www.stealth316.com/images/td04h-19t-cfm.gif How to read a compressor map
