What's happening in your garden today...?

Any keen gardeners, flower / fruit / veg growers on board? Post your work here

This is our front garden - lawn, with a central raised bed with numerous perennials in as well as annuals, some golden slate and my 2 old play things in the middle

Last couple of weekend, plus close to £400 spent, gives you this:

And for the back garden (the working garden - fruit n veg)

Winter'd onions:

2 thick rows of rainbow carrots and parsnips:

Lettuces and beetroot:

Red cabbage:

Chard and Italian bitters:

The greenhouse has tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, strawberries and a few other things going on:

And then down in the woods, and a small patch I've claimed back like all the other neighbours have done since 1962 when the houses were built

I've got apple and pear trees in the ground, and plum & cherry trees in pots:

And after digging over; levelling off and tamping down of a 13 year old compost heap I'd built (and let get too big) haha - I now have a ring of courgettes that I'll grow vertically, and in the middle will be a sweetcorn block, they're still in the greenhouse currently as not big enough to plant on yet

I'm knackered after all that

That's great work, I keep on meaning to get involved with the garden but I'm just too lazy. I would love to some flower beds around the lawn edge at the house.

I did clear some weeds today and that was enough for me. Looking at your pictures makes me feel tired!!

Haha yeah I've done too much over the last week(s) to be fair; paid for it today as well as have been in severe pain all day and lost all my breakfast this morning, and have only just eaten now and had a brew...

I don't learn

But it is a lot of work; once you've got it going, it's just maintenance then which is generally easy

Thanks to a police chase that ended with 7m of the back garden wall being demolished the builder have being back at the house again . But whilst they are here I'm trying to work out what to do with a pile of hardcore left by the previous owners when they did building works, our builders recon they can turn it into a 'rock feature', which is better than anything I've come up with so lets see how that goes!!

Great stuff Dan, very green fingered!

Speaking of garden work, I still have the blisters from treating the fences this weekend!

Not long finished and all done by brush, proper sh1t job, and wish I'd never started, but glad its done!!

Our dining room and my wife's study closely resembles a garden centre as she grows most of the plants from seed. We'll be planting tomatoes, courgettes, cucumbers, cucamelons, broad beans and a lot of flowering plants in the garden once the weather warms up.

I need to replace a couple of raised beds, which I'll get round to doing once we have a weekend where the wife hasn't planned anything and I'm not distracted by other garden ideas.

This weekend we attended a free music festival in Hanwell on Saturday and after my wife tripped walking home we spent most of Sunday at either the walk-in centre or A&E getting various X-rays. Leaving me just enough time to cut the grass and refill the bird feeders and watering the garden using bath water via a submersible pump.

Yes, but I can't post the pictures on here!

Lets just say my "garden" requires a lot more electricity than yours!

Bloody hell that's a nice back garden; very neat and tidy - I like it, a lot...

However, I'd have numerous raised beds/planters and probably a poly tunnel if our back garden was that big aqnd wide

Exactly; in the periods the veg I grow isn't useable (ie early or towards the end of etc); then I use out local farm shop - which is all local from numerous producers in the area and you tend to be spoiled for choice etc

But there's nowt better than going into your own garden to pull spuds/carrots/parsnips/onions/leeks/cabbages etc which you've grown yourself

A lot can be grown in big tubs/planters too - spuds can be grown straight in large grow bags that are upended, same with root veg - brassicas can be grown in planters; plus it makes it easier to erect protection from butterflies etc

Thanks gents its a nice size for a fairly new build house and I would not want anymore to have to look after thats for sure

I have a bit of land past the oak trees and back fence, I cannot do anything with it to lawn because of the trees, but I was thinking of doing some veg growing there, but always thought it was a sign of me getting old wanting to grow, cherry toms etc.. But I am coming to terms with the fact I am friggen old! As you say Sennen, the rubbish you get at the Supermarkets these days, and how it compared to how my Grandads home grown veg used to taste

Great work on the veg, Dan. Impressive.
I leave the gardening to my wife, and I'm happy to do so as she really knows what's she doing. She volunteers in our local museum gardens, which have won awards, and applies a lot of what she learns there at home - not to mention the cuttings which she's always bringing back.

Toms are easy - decent new plants from a local nursery gardens; big pots with good fruit/veg seeding compost, chicken manure and away you go... Plant them deep so the soils up to the first leaves, if not a bit more, they root deep then

Make sure they're watered to begin with, but not too much; and once they take off, water them every few days when the top 2 inches are dry and then when the fruit takes, feed them well

But ideally you'd want a grow-house for them; so a poly greenhouse or a large lean-to grow house etc - once they've taken they'll happily sit outside in a sunny spot

And a tomato, straight off the vine, that you've grown, tastes leagues ahead of anything in any shop

I have a little pot of Angelsey sea salt in the top drawer in my greenhouse for when that time comes

Very nice gardens. Im currently doing my annual grass reseed in the back and therefore chasing off bl00dy pigeons. Nothing keeps the sods away for long. It's a heavy clay soil so the grass always struggles during winter with excess water and cracking in summer.

Apart from that I hack some bushes when needed. Not a gardener.

My main gardening achievement this year has been not killing the plants my mum put in when she was over in March

Trees and bushes in the back garden have been done, and a couple of grass cuts, but that is about it. The hedge will need doing soon, but it is a full days job as runs right down to the street at the front, and is a few feet thick in places.

Would like to redo the garden at some point, but unfortunately there is a significant mismatch between my ideas and my budget

Photo was taken this morning, so a lot in shade, but we actually get full sun from about 10 until late evening.

At last, someone talking about gardens in my language. No hedge, no bushes, no plants, no borders... a typical new build garden. But as the house isnt my forever home, I keep it tidy and leave a blank canvas for who comes next... bit like the house really! Its got grass for the dog, cut every couple of weeks whether it needs it or not, and a patio for me. More importantly it has parking for 4 cars and a double garage...

I installed a log burning stove on the patio today. It's a cheap Chinese thing from Machine Mart but has an 8ft flue and much better than the knackered smoky 'chiminea' we had before.
My patio has been a bit neglected recently, so dug out all the crap and weeds from the joints, gave it a pressure wash and have been trying to re-point it. Half way through but it keeps bloody raining now!

I have a major moss problem in the front and rear lawns this year (don't know why). I hired a petrol 'scarifier' (mechanical rake) a couple of weeks ago which has helped. Now I need to throw a bit of top soil and grass seed on. I quite like gardening, but I hate my current house (the duchess won't move again apparently), so making the garden nice is a chore to me now.

We have three huge Linden trees in one area of the rear garden which my council won't let me remove (cos we're in a conservation area and they're dickheads), so that area which is South facing is pretty much useless now. If I could get rid of the trees I would build a summer house/man cave (or another double garage!!).
