That's fine, and I have absolutely no beef with that. If his comments seemed normal to you, that's great. But in our last exchange he was quoting exact numbers. Now there are supposedly XX units available. I think I'm allowed to ask for full disclosure here.

Of course, but please see my comment above.

So ECS doesn't know what they have, but you just told us last night what they have. I'm confused.

I simply came into this thread stating that it was NOT IMPOSSIBLE to still purchase them. And you decided to chime in to the contrary. Lo and behold, there are some available, which you are promoting, that are marked up.

Do I need to draw a picture?
THE MARK UP BY ECS WASNT A MARK UP. IT WAS A PRICING ERROR THAT OCCURED. The current price is what it was supposed to originally be. IT IS STILL possible to buy. Like I said I called and literally said they have a shipment of 3x. Why don't you call and find out for yourself? You can answer all your own questions.
Yep. This was the price I was quoted 2 weeks ago. The pricing error was not reflecting the shipping cost from Germany.

Everyone eventually figured that out. I'm not really concerned about the availability, and never was. That was other people lol.

I'm just playing devils advocate to the info "others" were providing.
Were all just trying to find and share as much info as possibly from sources we have access to. Nothing more.

So some are paying $455 but plus costs, its about $640. I bought mine initially when the price first dropped from ECS and payed the same total after tax/shipping. So it looks like it's a wash.

Side note, here is what it looks like installed...wow it looks like a...rear diff...

Even my Quaife and OEM BMW do not look different as it's in a BMW pumpkin.
Not at all, but people love pictures.

Again more beer induced sarcasm. I'm done posting for the night.

I am hearing that quite a few LSDs shipped out by ECS late last week were damaged and leaking fluid all over the place.

Might want to refuse shipment if your box comes in looking trashed and soaked in fluid.

As I've said before, that's not an issue.

Others tried to install on a manual transmission and I have stated from the beginning I had my doubts - and those are the posters with size issues.

Hi new to forum... thanks for photo, did you do the install yourself? If so, how would rate the difficulty? What would say is the biggest difference you notice after installing.

Thanks
Mike

@MikeK37 The LSD is a pretty involving job from what I've read with the special tool unless you're able to pry out the stock open diff, I would suggest a shop would be a better bet for this install but that's just my opinion of course. Costed me $600 from my local shop which was higher than I thought it would be but I did get the LSD for $574 shipped so I didn't really mind what the labor cost came up to as I got my LSD from BMW of Monterey while ECS had their prices in the $600+ range.

After breaking her in these past few weeks, I'll never get a car without a mechanical diff as it made more than a subtle difference in day to day driving I feel it working with my driving style.

ECS sold out of their stock and admitted that their large "backordered" is not happening.

Question for those that have had theirs installed: What did you pay for labor?
Based on my research, I think BMW book says 2.5 hours labor for this. Understanding most dealers will pad that a bit. The first install quote I got from a BMW dealer was $945 labor which seems on the extreme high end of the spectrum.

Is $3-500 a reasonable average to shoot for as I get quotes?

It cost me about 550 for the labor in Dallas TX. I could have saved ~100 at an indy shop but they weren't sure if they had the right tools and sounded a little fuzzy about the job. since my car is still under the original warranty I decided to go with the dealer which extends the warranty to any OEM installed parts like the LSD.
When you're getting quotes from the dealership, be sure to provide the part number for the diff so they know what to quote. The service adviser I first talked to had no clue about these things. He finds a quote for 'replace rear differential' in the computer and tells me it's going to be like 1100 for that. I'm guessing that was related to the stock diff, maybe there's additional coding or parts on that job.
With the part # for the m performance diff they can find the exact job in ISTA or whatever they use and it should be 2.5 hrs.

LOL no worries. I actually just sourced one. Once I get shipping confirmation I'll spill the beans. Don't want to curse a second order.

2.5 hours is BMW's warranty/port install hourly rate. The BMW book time outside of warranty/port work for an LSD install is 3.5 hours. That is what I was charged and what many others were charged for LSD installs on their M235s at BMW dealers. At Kansas City rates, the install of my LSD with tax and one pint of BMW LSD fluid was around $500. I wouldn't be surprised that a BMW dealer in CA will charge north of $700 for the same work as the rates are much higher in CA.

It cost me around 600 for the install at my local dealership. Hopefully that LSD comes through for you, it's a great upgrade
