![]() And a pair of needle nose mole grips will do it for you. But yes, 16mm spanner for the square back... Fortunately I have a few 16mm spanners / ratchet spanners etc

Bought a complete 8HP refresh kit (fluid, filter, seals and all 9 mechatronic solenoids) last week due to some recent erratic and jerky shifts in all drive modes. It's an easy job replacing all that, but wasn't expecting to do the solenoids at 102K. I do sit in crawling traffic for 2 hours every day, so wouldn't be unheard of if they wear out in those conditions.
But after a niggling doubt in my mind this morning, I thought I'd pull the MAF and take it out for a drive. Absolutely no difference, so yeah, it's dead/dying. Cleaned it with a specific MAF cleaner (don't use brake cleaner!) and sure enough, engine response and gearshifts back to normal, lol. I'll get a new one ordered. Oh well, lesson learned. Don't assume it's the gearbox if the shifts go to shit, lol. |

This is the first this I’ve ever replaced on any car I’ve ever owned. Thought I’d start small and not touch anything that needed electrically disconnecting.
The seal had perished many moons ago and fell apart if you looked at it for too long. It took about half an hour. the wipers were pretty stubborn to get off, I’d sprayed them with wd40 about half an hour prior but a large screwdriver underneath and a few good whacks with the hammer on the spline and they eventually came off. 5mm Allen key, 10mm and 16mm socket and a trim tool to get the little pop clips off on both corners! Edit: unsure if the pictures uploaded but it was the windscreen cowl that was replaced. Last edited by 340th; 03-28-2026 at 08:55 AM.. |

^^^ This
When I did mine on my E39 540i a few months back; I treated it with Gyeon Q2 Trim for peace of mind

Not sure mate, just enjoy playing.
In the last month, I've done the twin pipe, pipe dynamics back box and diffuser, uprated the intercooler, and waiting for the alcantata kit I've bought to turn up for the interior. It's in the bodyshop at the moment for the cs style vented bonnet and M3 style wings, painting both sides of the car too and changing the M perf front splitter out for a Rieger one, and I bought a new gloss set of bumper grills. Then I might look at wheel options, maybe refurb the 437 again in something bright or a change Last edited by YODI; 03-30-2026 at 02:25 PM.. |

Are you getting the flashy BMW one that tucks away under t' bumper? BMW to fit, or going elsewhere? (I'm thinking about it — interested in what choice you make 😊)

I fitted the same manufacturer / toward to our KIA Sorento and it's been fine. That particular model can take 150kg nose weight and has been great pulling a full loaded camping trailer AND 5 adult bikes on a carrier which bolts on to the swan neck.

I used GT Towing to fit a Westfalia demountable tow bar to my previous F33 and they fitted a similar tow bar to my current G23 last year. I just need to code out the parking sensors when using the tow bar or remember (!!) to turn off rear collision avoidance otherwise the car won't move.

Well there goes my clean sheet for the car
They were a bit too low for my liking, adjusted them and didn’t get flashed at all so I assumed they were fine 🤦🏼‍♂️

Bye bye turbo's!!
I've finally got her back after this lovely problem on the way back from Wales. Couple of grand down, hoped they would of lasted longer than 95k!

Fortunately never took it back to BMW and the situation never happened again. I even asked the tester in the following years MOT if they were ok and he said yes fine, why? |

Blimey, you would have thought so, perhaps the previous owner was never sympathetic with the car, that's if you bought used of course.
