You have to create all dirs on two of the partitions to get navi working. After script execution, go to the file explorer end create directories: ####### here is part of the script... With #df -h command you can see mount points of the partitions... !Do not execute these commands, they are just for example! mount –t qnx6 –o ro /dev/umass0t177 /mnt/data mount –t qnx6 –o rw /dev/umass0t178 /mnt/share mkdir /mnt/data/car mkdir /mnt/data/conn mkdir /mnt/data/hmi mkdir /mnt/data/mm mkdir /mnt/data/nav mkdir /mnt/data/speech mkdir /mnt/data/sys mkdir /mnt/share/car mkdir /mnt/share/conn mkdir /mnt/share/hmi mkdir /mnt/share/mm mkdir /mnt/share/nav mkdir /mnt/share/speech mkdir /mnt/share/sys Last edited by win12k; 01-31-2024 at 06:47 AM.. |

Now you have to unlock the HDD with instruction above (DLC BOOT 2022) and then create the partitions with QNX. Last edited by win12k; 01-31-2024 at 07:33 AM.. |

Hey Guys, has anyone ever checked the drive in QNX? What I mean is, I have run the script and I have created the drive manually. Everything looks fine once I am finished. If I close QNX and reopen it, check df -h and fdisk, the dormat in fdisk looks right but df -h looks all kinds of wrong. I haven't installed it in the unit yet because I just wanted to know if what I'm seeing is right.
I have attached the images of after running the script then after rebooting QNX. Thanks for any insights. The two screens displaying df -h results differ after reboot. Last edited by Nickmonc; 02-07-2024 at 06:46 PM.. |

Reviving the thread as I'm fortunate enough to stumble upon here after using the stupid AC vent foam cleaner as many others have and killed the my HDD. I'd highly recommend the PNY CS900 250GB SSD if you have NBT EVO. I tried a MSI SSD before but wasn't compatible.
Huge shoutout to Steve Ma from codemybimmer, he formatted the SSD in no time and showed me how to reinstall map files. Reach out to him if you're so technically inclined to mess around with QNX.

Hey guys!
This procedure works on an NBT HU, isn't it the EVO? Thank you everyone, I managed to do all the script procedures without errors, but maps, USB sticks, music via Bluetooth don't work. |

NBT hard drive doesnt work properly!
Hey guys!
Sorry for this late reply to this thread. The hard drive started clicking on my 2015 X5 and I lost DVD, Bluetooth streaming, navigation, and USB functionality. I don't wanna buy a replacement HU since where I live they are extremely expensive and hard to find. Is there a way any of you can help me restore those functionalities? I have the replacement hard drive on order but do not have any experience with this kind of stuff whatsoever. Thanks in advance! |

NBT EVO on the other hand is more friendly with SSDs and we've been able to use PNY, Western Digital and many others.

If you need to replace the drive, we can help with the initialization along with having the maps reinstalled. You can reinstall gracenotes on your own as I believe it is shared on this forum. User manuals would require a full flash on the head unit which we wouldn't recommend since it could result in a brick if you have other aged or worn internal components.

Hey Guys, first thanks all for your comment on this thread. This helped me a lot to fix my HDD (which is now working). But I hope someone can still help me with my issue
I am still struggling with Navi/Maps update. As far as I unterstood i just have to get the correct maps for NBT and put them on usb + plug it in. Car is detecting an update and asking if I want to update it. Starting it and nothing happens. If i go to Navi, it's just stuck at "Navigationssystem wird gestartet..." (Navi stuck in startloop) Bluetooth started working with the new HDD which was failing before. Do I have to do something different first or is just my NBT fried? EDIT: For anyone in the future also encountering such issue, try to delete all errors in your car via e-com and format your USB on exfat. This fixed the issue for me Last edited by Chillnight; 06-17-2024 at 02:31 AM.. |

Hi @Goldenadam and all
First of all, THANKS for a really cool guide on how to replace the NBT harddrive. I've been STUCK trying to connect a USB to the VM im running through VirtualBox. How did you manage?? I cant for the life of me get QNX to detect the USB where I have the create_hdd.sh file. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. What I've tried: 32GB USB FAT-32 formatted VirtualBox USB section added a filter for a 3.0 USB Booted QNX with USB attached to pc beforehand Booted QNX without usb attached and then attach after boot complete Ran all ungodly commands in QNX for finding the USB, but it wont detect the USB My host machine reads the USB fine and when I boot up QNX my host machine stops showing the USB in file explorer. I take that as in virtualbox now recognized the USB and its therefore no longer connected to host machine. Still cant find it in QNX with "ls /dev" in order to manually mount it. I've also thought of just creating a bootable USB with the QNX SDP 6.5 and just boot up my laptop with QNX native, but neither Balena Etcher nor Rufus will accept the ISO because of some partition thing. Any help is appreciated. Last edited by zayt; 06-19-2024 at 03:42 AM.. Reason: Adding info |

If you want an easier approach:
Source: I've found the following: goldenadam provided the solution: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...10&postcount=1 Captsi tried it for himself and exposed the story to bimmerfest: https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/u...#post-13896031 Znuf done all the steps as Captsi and created a virgin image: https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/u...#post-13941954 https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/u...#post-13941969 For latest maps: https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/a...rrent.1426073/ https://drive.google.com/drive/folde...0jFVjydlZcJe-U Requirements: - SATA III to USB 3.0 adapter - 2.5" SSD OR 2.5" HDD that supports SMART attribute 194 I've used SSD Patriot Burst Elite 240GB, SATA III, 2.5" Znuff used SSD ADATA SU650 240GB, SATA III, 2.5" - USB drive with latest maps. - Windows machine with at least 241GB free space on a single partition Steps: 1) Download: 1) NBT.tgz : https://app.mediafire.com/91xh8z1ljg3fu 2) imageusb.zip: https://app.mediafire.com/91xh8z1ljg3fu 3) NanaZip : Google 2) !! Move NBT.tgz to a partition that has at least 241gb FREE In my case, C: and D: were full, I've used E: 3) Right click on NBT.tgz > NanaZip > extract here. It will extract it to the same location of NBT.tgz Example E:/nbt_tutorial/NBT.tgz, then The extraction will be in E:/nbt_tutorial directory. Note: ignore that message of NanaZip 4) Rename extracted NBT file to NBT.bin Note: imageUsb SSD burning will fail if you don't do this step ! 5) Plug in your SSD Note: preferably to use USB 3.0 port and USB 3.0 SSD adapter 6) Open imageUsb.exe Step 1) select SSD drive Step 2) write image to USB drive Step 3) select NBT.bin file Step 4) press "Write" Note: for me it burned the image in ~30 min (USB 3.0 adapter) 8) Install the SSD in NBT EVO unit. Note: At this point Bluetooth and/or CarPlay should work normally. 9) You will encounter a very annoying message, to insert a USB with BMW Maps. Insert the maps USB drive and it should copy as normal. Note: Before upgrading to SSD, I've updated my maps + CarPlay activated using FSC code. Then I've decided to make the SSD upgrade, just in case (HDD is still functional but encrypted by BMW, so raw clone DIDN'T work). After SSD upgrade I've inserted a USB with 2024 maps and it started to copy. This time I didn't need FSC code. Last edited by smircea1; 08-28-2024 at 03:53 PM.. |

I have the NBT EVO HU and ID4 software and used a PNY CS900 250gb SSD - was £20 on amazon I checked before using the image, this seemed to be reporting the smart attribute 194 although i'm not sure this was actually required for my unit All is well apart from I have an annoying message about the maps that needs me to navigate out of about 4 menu screens every time I go into the car - is there a way to get rid of this without paying for maps? I have never used the maps or never will... I tried a new map download hoping a 'fresh' drive would bypass the need for a code but no dice |
