Eventuri: BMW N20 Carbon Intake System

The N20 Eventuri intake system is another example of our "Complete System" principal. It is a fully sealed system which ensures that the turbo does not draw hot air from the engine bay. To further improve on the intake temperatures, we added a front scoop which forces air into the stock duct and feeds the intake system when the car is in motion. This combination of a sealed system with an air scoop results in lower intake temperatures than the stock airbox. To ensure the smoothest flow possible we use our Patented filter housing coupled with an intake tube which replaces the stock tube. The stock tube has a sound dampening chamber which causes turbulence - our carbon tube replaces this and allows for unrestricted flow to the turbo.

Components
  • Patented Carbon Fiber Venturi housing
  • High Flow Generation 2 Filter
  • Carbon Fiber Intake Tube with integrated MAF Boss
  • Carbon Fiber Intake Duct
  • Carbon Fiber Front Scoop
  • High Quality Silicon Coupler and OEM Spec Hose Clamps
  • Laser Cut Stainless Steel Bracket Work

Carbon Intake Housing Assembly

The filter housing comprises of a high flow filter, aluminium cowl, laser cut brackets and the carbon pod itself. The carbon pod shrouds the reverse mounted filter and smoothly shapes the airflow down to the intake tube. This smooth reduction in cross sectional area invokes the Venturi effect where the airflow accelerates whilst maintaining laminar conditions. It can be thought of as a large velocity stack.

Carbon Fibre Intake Duct

The duct channels ambient air from the OEM air duct to the filter. It fits inside the OEM ducting system and smoothly transitions to the circular filter housing shape. In order to ensure a good seal against engine bay heat - it also has a flexible rubber edging around the opening which presses against the OEM ducting to create the desired seal. The duct was designed to have the maximum internal volume possible within the given geometry of the engine bay. This ensures that the filter housing is able to draw with minimum restriction.

Carbon Air Scoop

The scoop was designed for maximum efficiency in directing the incoming air to the stock duct openings. Many aftermarket scoops have a large flat area almost perpendicular to the oncoming air - not great for channeling it into the ducts as the airflow just "hits" this flat portion and creates turbulence.

The Eventuri Scoops have been designed to sit directly behind the front grills to capture as much air as possible and with a continuous curve to the duct opening to ensure this airflow is efficiently channeled.

Carbon Intake Tube

Our intake tube is crafted from 100% prepreg carbon fibre. The tubes smoothly carry the airflow to the turbo by ensuring there are no sharp or sudden bends. The smooth bend geometry ensures laminar flow is maintained from the filter to the exit. We have also incorporated the MAF sensor mount to the tube with a CNC machined MAF boss. By keeping the diameter the same as the stock MAF tube, the engine runs without any MAF related error lights.

Performance Data:

Above is a dyno graph showing the comparison between the Eventuri and the stock airbox on an F series 320i with a stage 1 remap. As you can see, power and torque are increased through a large portion of the rpm range. This translates on the road to increased part throttle and full throttle response with the car pulling much more eagerly to the redline. The testing was done on the same day back-to-back and temperatures were monitored to ensure consistency. The bonnet was closed for all runs.

The gains are from a combination of reasons:

1) The sealed system coupled with a front air scoop keeps IATs low.

2) The Venturi housing provides a smooth transition from the filter to the intake tube which helps the turbo to run more efficiently.

3) The entire system is constructed from pure pre-preg carbon fiber which is great at insulating from heat.

My god is that good looking. I'm interested, just have a couple questions.

Is there pricing info?
Does this utilize a dry filter (I assume it comes with the filter)?
What is an "integrated MAF boss"?
Can it be had without the intake scoop?
Any videos to showcase sound?
Install video?

Yes it comes with the housing and an oiled filter. Intake scoops are part of the kit also.

You guys should have made it out of play doh and then you would have been able to make it realistically priced.

It will take a "special" customer to spend $1500 on an intake that MAY net a couple of horsepower.

As mentioned earlier, you can buy an upgraded turbo for this type of money.

Gotcha. Definitely a dope looking and sounding intake, but too rich for my blood. Cool to see people still developing for the N20 though.

Well if you're buying an intake for the power you've got the wrong idea entirely. It's for engine bay looks and sound exclusively, as far as I'm concerned. I could actually see this fitting in nicely to some of the cleaner 328i builds that are more like car meet builds, and I'd imagine for that crowd, something like this will sell. However, for guys like you and me that just want go-fast parts and a good looking but not carmeet showstopper good looking cars, this isn't gonna work.

Discontinued probably because no one with an N20 is going to spend 1500 on an intake. Really nice design though and attractive. Plus, the scoop, makes TONS of sense.

However, this was some RnD that was over engineered for the target audience.

There are other carbon fiber intake systems. Otherwise you get most of the gains from an afe grill scoop + closed cold air intake system. You are talking 400-500 vs 1400.

Cheaper would be afe grill scoop + tuner Motorsport intake hose (turbo inlet to factory air box). That's maybe $150 total.
