Aftermarket f80 paddles on f30?
So people here have told me that the f80/82 paddles are direct fit on the m-sport f30 steering wheel. Well if this is true does that mean aftermarket extended f80/82 paddles will also fit the f30?
thanks!

Yes, here is my thread with extended paddles. You can do this with your standard F30 paddles as well..that is what I did. Looks much better than the standard F30 paddles and the M3 paddles. I color matched mine to the exterior body color...your mileage may vary.

DAMN that looks like pure sex , good job on that mod bro!
But I noticed that you used a m3 f80 steering wheel. So I got a little confused, will the aftermarket f80 paddles fit my f30 m sport steering wheel? or do I need a f80 steering wheel? or is the f80 steering wheel essentily the same as the f30 only difference is trim color, logo and stitching? but the components and interior/module is all the same? thanks! roll_the_dice

I just happened to upgrade to an M3 wheel. It will work with the standard Msport F30 wheel as well. All the internals are the same. I assume you already have F30 paddles on your car...so when you order the extended paddles, make sure they come with a backing plate which will replace where your current paddles are and the extensions will go between the electronics on the paddles and the backing plate. If you have the M3 paddles, then you already have the backing plate needed to put the extensions on. HTH

So basicly i will just put this paddle for example in between the module and the backing plate that is on my f30 paddles? But i thought the backing plate was the same part as the paddle all together?

If you look at this thread it shows someone that changed from M6 paddles to F30, but the M6 has different electronics...but this picture shows what I am talking about with the backing place. On the F30, the backing plate is built into the "paddle" portion of the shifters..where the M3 paddles are screwed into the backing plate.
When I ordered my extensions from ebay, I sent a note before I ordered to make sure they came with the backing plate (plastic). They said I just needed to send a note when ordering saying it was not for an M3 and they would send it...and they did.

It confused me as well at first also...then I found a picture of some extensions on ebay that showed the backing plate came with them...so I sent a few companies a message and asked if the plate came with...and they did if specified...so I pulled the trigger.

i bought these in the make offer portion for $190 I think...expensive, but had to have them...and then I prepped and painted them when I got them to EBII. If I wasn't trying to color match I would have bought red. They were SUPER slow shipping, but I got them eventually.

I am wanting to do these extended paddles on my car. I have not been able to find the realoem part number for the backing plate or a vendor on eBay. I also reached out to the person who did this with little help on finding the actual vendor. Any help would be appreciated.

A quick ebay search typing in "bmw f80 paddle shifter" found all of these and they should all have the backing plate. I bought these from this vendor (Accelerated_distribution).

Don’t wanna start a new thread...
But will the f30 wiring/module fit into the f80 paddle? Assuming it will, will the click feel be the same ? Since I’m just re-using the same spring and mechanism ? Or is the f80 paddle shape and material what makes the difference ? Any help is appreciated. Thanks |

I did use the original mechanism from F30 and just swap the F80 parts (the switch come with F80 paddle feel very soft dont know why). So the click feel is about the same. However, F80 paddle sure feel nice to touch and easy to reach. |
