Intake questions

Wassup everyone. I have a 328i xdrive 2015 N20 with M Performance exhaust and AWE Mid pipe , also everything in Engine is stock . I want to upgrade my intake but every aftermarket intake has that sound which in my opinion I don’t like it’s to much if you ask me. I was just wondering are there any aftermarket intakes with no sound just like OEM intake ?? If not I will just purchase a brand new OEM one. The crazy sound from aftermarket intakes is not my speed .

just buy a closed aftermarket intake, Momentum Cold Air Intake System w/Pro DRY S Filter Media 51-82212 or INJEN EVOLUTION COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM - EVO1103 should work. the one that makes noise is open intake.

but if you ever have to buy a stock one, just buy a used one, you would save money than buying a new one. A lot of people are selling their used one once they upgrade.

since intake is a non moving parts, there is no need to buy a new one.

The only thing that aftermarket intakes do is to make more noise. Most of them aren't even cold air. The original is. This is one of those items where 'upgrades' really are not.

most upgrade an intake for sound with understanding that it has little value for performance gain. exhaust is the worst value for performance and intake is 2nd to the worst. they are both arguably the best value if you are seeking sound improvements, though.

not sure what your objective is with the intake but imo, money would be better spent on a better intercooler and turbo inlet pipe if you're seeking performance gain pre-throttle body.

for exhaust, for best sound, just run a straight pipe system with catless downpipe, no resonator midpipe, and no muffler, lol, best sound ever, lol

Intakes are shown to make around ~10 wheel horsepower under the curve, so much for "intakes do nothing." The intake diameter and design isn't the limiting factor for flow, it's the resonators to keep the car quiet in the intake piping after the air box and turbo inlet.

For gains + keep the car quiet, you can get a turner upper intake pipe and it'll give you 99% if the gains from an intake. Most of the flow gains are made from changing that pipe as the inside has a baffle similar to a cheese grater and a afe grill scoop.

To finish off the cold side of the intake pipe, you grab an ftp inlet.

There are a couple forum sponsors who can help you with these and give you a nice forum member discount on top. Cheers.

Most intakes replace the upper inlet pipe which have the resonator box. Gruppe M intake keeps the stock upper pipe so the intake sound is a bit more baffled compared to other intakes. In comfort mode shifting ~2k, you won't hear it much. Downside is that with the extra air volume from the intake, you get a lot of blowback in sport/sport+. Up to you whether you like the turkey noise or not.

I switched to Turner's silicone pipe and the intake noise is much more pronounced, but it also got rid of the blowback noise for the most part.
