I think I'm taking another stab at this today, while removing my Dinantronics and installing my JB4 and plumbing + wiring for BMS meth.
Will post back with results and pics from DME job. Waiting for engine to cool now.

Well I spent 13 hours straight working on my car yesterday and unfortunately got distracted doing other things after i pulled the manifold and DME.
I pulled my Dinantronics, rerouted some other wiring, installed my JB4 (after fixing some unfortunate harness defects), installed and plumbed my Meth tank and pump (again after fixing up some unfortunate defects), and after all of this I finally got around to hacking it yet again. And as soon as I tried to connect to my DME, the software alerted me to a new version of the software which had been released last week. I had some trouble getting the new version because the link it alerted me to was dead, so I had to dig a bit to find the new version. The new interface is much cleaner, and seemingly more complex, or perhaps just more verbose. Here's a screenshot of the new interface for the DME I'm using. Unfortunately this time around ended basically the same was as last, I physically hack the board, then run into software issues as soon as I'm ready. Since I already spent all day working on my car, I needed to get myself home so I had to put everything back together, but this time to save myself some time next time around I did things a little differently. Since the boot pin that requires shorting is so small, I found it very difficult to solder the larger gauge resistor wire to the board without risking damage to the surrounding area. I decided to use 30 AWG Kynar wire this time which fits perfectly through the hole. Using a very thin soldering iron tip it was much easier to secure the kynar wire to the board without any visible damage to the board. I taped up the remaining stripped kynar wire at the board connection, and led a long strand of insulated kynar wire out the seal of the DME up into a sealed bag stowed under my brake system cover, with hopes that when I finally get some real software support I can easily pop out the DME connections and short and hack the board while its still under the manifold, which would significantly reduce the time this job takes. And again, despite soldering my DME board, the car fired up and ran perfectly on my way home. Just waiting on software support for this very new version.

Here's some other background info I should have posted earlier.
This is the guide from the ECU Explorer devs to connecting + shorting the MEVD1762 (N55) DME board. I should also mention this is not the only DME the F30 N55s use, it's one of several. Also here is a screen shot of the default locked DME function Values decrypted via ESys that we are attempting to change. Specifically MIL_codierung (CEL suppression), KAT (catalytic converter efficiency monitor), VMax (electronically limited top speed), and mostly for EU users, Vartianten_config (which is necessary to bring limited output engines up to their full output capacity) and also Laendercodierung (Region/Country Selection).

It's a russian tool that has been released over a year ago. When the first russians posted about this tool nobody believed them. It also allows for power class change. For instance, this tool allows you to change the engine salapa element and then use ISTA or INPA to upload the corresponding software. So my 320 would behave like a 328 since they share the same engine beside pistons (compression ratio).
OP, how much did you pay for hardware and software? The last time I checked it was 1000 EUR. |

Did anything come of this? I am considering purchasing this software to try to remove the security on my N55 e84 which shares the MEVD1726 ECU with the F30. Were you able to read your ISN?

Nope, still can't get it to work, but it may just be my DME (MEVD172Y), I've not tried another variant.
Your variant is listed in the compatibility page. I definitely cannot recommend this program to anyone because there is 0 support and its not the most intuitive tool and comes with essentially no documentation, the site documentation is fragmented and contradictory etc. I still can't say for sure whether or not this product works at all, since I've only had access to my own DME for testing.

Thanks for the quick response.
What type of issue are you running into - is it that you don't know the process to read the ISN and reset the counter because there is no documentation, or that the software won't communicate with the car? I have been trying to reset the counter on my ECU for a long time, but it's virtually impossible to find info on this software outside of a few Russian forums. You're the first English speaking person I have found that has experience with this software, so I really appreciate the help. |

System time reset
Hello Cryptocar,
I am wondering, if this software you have can also reset system time in a dump when not connected to the DME directly. Why I am asking: I have a bit of problem with one MEVD172 ECU, in which we tried to change the VIN using BMW Explorer tool. This worked, BUT it messed up some variant coding which is only possible to access with the system time below 10 hours. I am willing to pay you, if it would be possible to send you the full dump of the ECU and you could reset the system time so that I will be able to recode the car back to the stock version. Now the car (F13 640i) has about a half power and I need to get a way out of this situation and I am not willing to purchase the tool only for one-car use. Thank you very much for any reply!
