How can I get Apple car play?

Evening, I was wondering if my car supported Apple car play? When I go online onto my connected drive it was always grayed out and unavailable.

Upon reading online I can only see that my car needs the nav pro to support Apple car play, and that I do have. What am I missing here? How do I get Apple car play? Lol

Here's my VIN K372518

Don't worry, Apple Carplay is nice, but I honestly turn it off most of the time and I hardly use it.

Yea that was a question I asked myself.

Considering my drive to work is 7min.
I barely have time to flip a song, yet along listen to it properly lol. N my music stream through Bluetooth is perfect as is. Doubt It be worth to invest in the MMI

Cheers guys

Google maps and Waze seem like the only really useful functions you'd gain from using carplay. I'm retrofitting NBT Evo and am considering buying a cheap iPhone to test it out.

Waze and also better texting. I paid $48 from an Ebay seller and got it, and it worked great. Until I had my audio system serviced and the dealer upgraded it to the latest firmware. Now I need to buy it again and it's a more difficult process. I can get it for $300 from BMW for 20 years so I might actually do it that way. Still, it's really annoying that they actually charge for it at all.

I would like to stream xm while using google maps and turn off voice navigation. I think the later part has to be done from the phone if it is possible. Prefer just using the BMW navigation.

My commute is over an hour and I still don't use it most of the time. Spotify works great in iDrive and I have my phone mounted for waze anyway.

Ditto. I have a an iMac 5k at home, a Mac Pro at work, a MacBook Air for on the go, an iPhone XS Plus, 3 iPads and I have apple CarPlay in my M3 and my i3. I don't really use it.

BMW announced this week that they are no longer charging a fee for CarPlay and that they will refund anyone who paid the yearly or 20 year fee.

Thank you all, that settles it. It seems like it's more of a novelty than usefulness. Cheers

Just retrofitted this into my '14 335i and I'm loving it. Every car these days comes with CarPlay - it felt necessary to modernize my interior and I'm really happy with it for the price.

Full 8.8" screen Waze and wireless connection support is amazing. As well as having Siri read my texts, and being able to respond to texts just by talking. Much safer and very useful rather than glancing down at my Rennline phone mount (best mount by the way). Spotify interface is much improved and visually appealing as well. Definitely has improved my driving experience and I don't even consider myself a big Apple fan.

As a bonus the unit even comes with wireless Android Auto support, as well as phone mirroring and more. I have no association to the product just a happy user.

It's now a very affordable upgrade. Here's a thread with details:

Trust me just get a good phone mount and just use your phone and play music through bluetooth on the car speaker.

My girlfriend has CarPlay in her car, I love it, it makes things so easy, just worried it might affect the warranty otherwise the option you used isn't that expensive. How hard was it to install and how much time did it take? Seems like a lot of members over here don't like it. I often have to open spotify and play a song to get it going, sometimes it skips auto-play on start even if the app is open in the phone, it's annoying, then I have to go back to media to make the song controls appear, CarPlay would make it easy, plus you get entire spotify playlist on the screen.

I can't imagine it would impact warranty at all. You can still operate the normal iDrive system as if you never had the CarPlay unit installed at all.
Not sure of anyone who has this CarPlay/Android Auto MMI Prime and "doesn't like it". Maybe you saw older reviews on the previous iterations (the earlier wired or non full screen versions, or ones that required a second mic?). Or maybe you are referring to people that don't like Apple's CarPlay in general? The latest version has only been out for a few months.

My experience was posted in that thread I linked. It's not hard, just takes some patience. Install videos are also in that thread. Duration also depends on options in the car - larger head unit with Nav, HK & Sirius will be installed differently than one without those options which uses a smaller head unit. Reason being is the head unit is larger (with more options) and gives less space to store the box behind it.

At only $240 it's been a total game changer to have wireless, full screen, 8.8" CarPlay support which uses OEM mic that activates without me needing to press or touch anything once I start my car.

I equate Apple car play to super cheap cars, mainly because all my rentals come with it, so it would just feel weird to have it installed in my 435.

Just personal preference, I suppose. May be my bias, but I think it looks cheap - simplistic- for BMW

So far the most comprehensive post of a full installation:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/car-e...w-3gt-f34.html

Not sure if I'd go that route to do mine, but sure will be nice to have the Carplay
