Getting delivery of my 340 tomorrow and getting offered 2 wheels / tire options

Car will be mineral grey. I'm attracted towards the Michelin tires, but i'm affraid its gonna be too grey. But I'll need a set of winter wheels at some point; so 18" would make better winters in my opinion.

What would you choose and why? I have to give an answer in the next hour in order to get my car tomorrow, so help would be appreciated so I can make an educated choice within the time frame.

1st are the 19" on Bridgestone Potenza S001 RTF

1nd are the 18" in orbit grey with Michelin Super Sport

I vote the 19s. They look MUCH nicer. And you might as well get a cheaper set of winter wheels rather than buying a nicer set of summer wheels.

I currently use my OEM's 16" as winters on my old '06 and bought OZ Ultraleggera in 18" for summers. So I like the look; but the tire thats on it got a lot to play in the balance as well.

I like something that have the looks; and also are practical; so OZ were a slam dunk for me. Seems that my two options today both got pros and cons that mutually void themselves.

Damn I hate having to decide that kind of thing in a hurry.

I guess the 18" are the winner. A lot more scarce and since they will end up as winters, its best to keep them smaller I suppose. + The Super Sport are something else compared to the Potenza's.

Take the non runflat MPSS on 18". Better ride and handling in every way I can think of. I just don't dig the clearcoat of machined aluminum look, I didn't like it in the 90s when it was popular either.

I watched that video when I ordered my Mineral Grey F30 also. Always thought it looked very nice.

That was a big factor in my decision. I will ride the MPSS for 3-4 summers while the Potenza would have lasted maybe 2. Not only the MPSS are more pleasant to drive but they last a LOT longer.

Thanks for chiming in.

The 19" has a premium to them compared to the 18". Do you have to pay extra for the 19s?

Large wheels, low profile tires and winter driving don't mix, because they're much more likely to suffer pothole damage, especially with the stiffer sidewalls of RFT. RFT low profiles are also hard riding. The 18s are the right choice.

I agree. If I would had picked the 19's; they would had been my summers for pretty much all the reasons you already mentionned.

If I would had picked the 19's, I would have been in the market for Winter wheels (in a couple months), but since I picked up the 18's, I will be in the market for summer wheels, but just after the MPSS are worn out.

I think it depends on you and the options you select. If you have the adaptive suspension, then the 19" for the summer and 18" for the winter should be good. If you have the MSport suspension, you might find that riding on 19" tires is too harsh. If you have the regular suspension...I have no clue (I have the MSport so no idea how the regular handles).

The standard suspension is tuned for RFT in the stock wheel size. Going one size larger with the wheel while changing to non-RFT should pretty much preserve the same ride stiffness. Going one wheel size larger while still using RFT might be harsh, while staying with the stock wheel size and switching to non-RFT might be too soft, unless you have adaptive to dial it in.

I'm confident it'll be more then acceptable, they offer both wheels in the configurator on the site.

For rims, i like style 442 (1st) much better and 19 inch will fill out the xdrive wheel well a lot better.
For tires I'd go for MPSS (2nd). You should probably get another set of rims for winter anyways if you're owning the car.

These wheels (704) are actually 2.5lb lighter per wheel vs. the 19" 442 wheels; only slightly heavier than the 18" 398 wheels.

MaximusJ I'd still go for the 442 wheels over the 398 wheels though. 442 wheels contrast an F30 really well.

I'd take the second option if she came with it. Otherwise it would be the first option.

Here's mine.

Would NEVER use MPSS in Canada for the Winter.

Period.
