Just did this mod on mine, had to wait a month for the trim piece, and most folks seem to have got a better price than me.
Part looks smart, nice touch, getting the two wires into each socket on the loose plug is tricky, then getting the lower trim piece to stay in place means a bit of mucking about, but with patience all straightforward.

I should be getting my LCI trim piece in another week or so and my cable parts will be arriving next week so I am keen to start on this mod.

It works best if you stuff most of the trim cable and adapter up between the AC controls and Headunit.

Took like forever for the part to arrive. I finally got it and installed it today. Cool mod and really increased the ambience of the F30 interior.
Thanks a lot to Dante for great DIY. |

You need to buy the bits and make it yourself. All the info is in the initial posts.

Finally parts has arrived, so I will start this mod.
Only one question: if I would like to have only orange light in both settings (Classic and Sport) in which way must I modify the cable? |

Not sure why you would want to do that but if you look on the first page, Pin 2 is the power for the Orange LED. Therefore if you want the trim to always light Orange regardless if you have it set to Classic or Sport then attach Pin 3 (white LED) power from the car to Pin 2 of the Y cable you make. This way, the Orange LED Pin 2 of the LCI trim will always get power regardless of the setting. Of course the little LED cupholder light will also always be orange too. If you want that LED to be configurable then you will need to splice Pin 3 from the car to Pin 3 of the connector of the cupholder LED.

I will be tackling this mod this weekend. One question I had is if people are hearing any rattling caused by the Y-cable? It looks like everyone is not securing the cable and connectors in any way? I am particularly OCD about cabin rattles and creeks so I am thinking about ways to secure the connectors, perhaps with double-sided tape or tie wraps. I wont know exactly what my strategy will be until I open up the panels and see what options I have.

Just placed an order through my local BMW dealer. 50$-ish plus tax for all of the parts. The trim is not only back ordered in the US but also in Germany . I gotta wait then

Hi guys
finally received mine today. Ordered from www.kfm-motorraeder.de They dont accept car parts but since this part is small, they agreed to ship it. But i need to wait for 2 week for the parts to arrive at their warehouse. There are no stock it seems In case you're buying from there, please confirm with them if they can accept the order since its a car part and then how long you need to wait for the part to arrive at the warehouse. They has good response. Parts "THE" Y-cable After installation But i am having a problem of keeping the bottom cover tight as the stock. Its falling down easily and doesn't seem to be locked as previous. I remember RalphyBMW said he had the same problem. If the tips can be shared to fix it will be appreciated I am currently using a wire wrap tape to add some "adhesion" to make it stay better. But still looking for a better solution Last edited by bmbk; 11-12-2015 at 04:46 AM.. |

I had the same issue. Gave it a quick jab with the palm of my hand - in and up - heard it click into place first go. Fixed.

Also, there should be as little cable as possible under the bottom cover. It works best if you stuff most of the trim cable and adapter up between the AC controls and Headunit. I wouldn't recommend that...You might break a wire doing that.
