I have thought about this so frequently. Every mod or repair comes with some driving to baseline and/or validate. Thankfully I've never had to try the excuse, but I've got it ready for whenever Johnny Law wants to know what I'm up to.

I want to know what the outcome was. Jailtime? License Suspension? Definitely reckless driving right? I guess it depends on the officer, but no matter where you are 118pmh is bad news in the USA lol

He could EASILY have thrown him in jail for the night and tow the car. Triple digits plus over 2x the speed limit

I'd be lying if I said I've never gone over 100 on a public road, but he was weaving in and out of traffic on the side streets. One could argue that it's his prerogative to endanger just himself, but he is endangering others.

Noelified looks like you were right about his punishment though: https://www.ajc.com/news/cops-man-dr...dTIdzJTkYwaPM/ Judging by the mugshot, he was arrested, and got reckless driving Saw another article that said it was an '07 E90 335i. https://patch.com/georgia/duluth/vid...rrested-police

I was gonna say, I honestly can't blame the guy for going 100+ on public roads. Under the right circumstances, it's nothing but a danger to yourself. But if what you said is true, that he was weaving in and out of traffic, then I don't feel bad for him.

Real bummer, anyone of us could be in his shoes. Although I would only do it on wide open road and not weave, although 118 is not all that fast.

Either way, hard to know if I sympathize with him or not. Like I said, open road at 118: I feel pretty bad because that's not all that uncommon of a thing to do, at least not in this community. Weaving through traffic: irresponsible and should be punished. Like I said though, not sure of the circumstances, but I'd like to know more...

According to the description on Liveleak .... however trustworthy it is:
"Police in Georgia have released body cam footage from a stop last month where the driver of a 2007 BMW 3-Series coupe claimed he was caught at 118 mph in a 45 zone because he had just fixed a part and needed to make sure all was well with the car. The part clearly worked—the excuse did not. A silver BMW was spotted weaving in and out of traffic at high speed on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, a multi-lane thoroughfare lined with homes and businesses, at around 9pm on the night of October 17." |

Up here in the PNW speeds in excess of 95MPH result in a minimum $1000.00 fine and it goes up from there. Speed contests equate to reckless endangerment and may result in arrest plus a very heavy fine in excess of of $1000.00. The highest I have heard of (unsupported) was $1650.00 plus other penalties.

Plenty of times during my road trips I've had 100 miles of open range -nothingness in front of me...nothing to worry about other than wild life. Maxed her out MANY times....but if you're looking for "bragging rights" or need to piss your testosterone all over the place...hit up the nearest "No Fly Zone" to strap on a pair.
Just say'n... .

Loaded question. Haha he was failing no matter what he said. Surprised he was so calm about it though. 90 in a 45 is still pretty bad. Haha

Used to live in GA. They take a dim view of that stuff down there.
"You in a heap 'o trouble, boy." If he was arrested and had to post bail for a traffic violation, it "ain't goin' to be pretty." The judge won't even look up from his paperwork, he'll see it was a BMW, and I'd guess a 3 to 6 month suspension, thousands in fees and fines, and maybe even community service. Remembering GA, maybe even some time in the box. Plus, once the state notifies the insurance company, owning a BMW might become cost prohibitive.
