Dealerships fitting M performance kit

Evening all,

I am going to order the M performance rear spolier tomorrow from BMW Cotswold.

My car has arrived at the dealership (collecting 29th October) is it worth seeing if my dealership will fit the part and have it ready for when I collect the car?

Cheers

Do it NOW! You might save on installation fees. Worked for me.

Reminds me of when I bought my 335d from my local dealer but got the kidney grills from Cotswold BMW. I asked my dealer if they would fit them during the car prep and they wanted to charge me for it! So hang on, I've just spent tens of thousands of pounds on a car and you won't fit some grills for me, gratis? Their excuse was that I hadn't bought them from them and they also wanted to charge me a full hourly rate to fit them. Told them to poke it after they reduced the cost to £50 and did them myself. I sort of got where they were coming from but even so.

I’m expecting the same, emailed the dealership so will wait and see. If not I will just fit the thing myself.
An hourly rate to fit kidney grills, really?

Quite. Took me all of 15 mins. Hopefully your dealer will be a bit more accommodating.

Keeping my fingers crossed, if not I can detour past the Cotswolds on the way back from the dealership it’s only 40 miles away if they will fit.

I installed myself, if you want any pointers give me a shout. It’s not at all difficult if you prep it correctly.
You will need to change the boot tension spring point too, the added weight of the spoiler means the boot release doesn’t always work.

I bought the car and the grills from the same dealer, and asked if they could fit them on arrival. Just like you, they wanted to charge me for fitting so I did them myself.

I’m going to fit it myself, dealship want £90 to fit or £325 supplied and fitted. That’s £150 more than I can get it from Phil.

If you get the dealership to fit it so it's on the car before collection, it is often considered to be 'standard fitment' for your car rather than an aftermarket part that needs to be declared to insurance companies. Most insurance companies don't care about options that are on the car when it originally left the forecourt. Personally I'd let them do it, it'll probably save you the £90 in the long run.

That's not true at all. How it left the factory yes, how if left the forecourt no. These are most definitely modifications from the standard spec in the eyes of an insurer.

Most that I rang only wanted modifications if they were done after it was delivered or weren't invoiced before delivery. Like I said, most, not all, so you can't say it's not true at all because I found it certainly was. Not all will take this stance but you will probably have to refer to the underwriting department for a clear answer like I did.

Change of thought I’m going to get the dealership to fit as the car will be going straight to the detailer for a full ceramic protection.

I was told the same thing. In fact I told Aviva I might not be having them fit straight away as a different dealership would potentially be fitting. They said as long as I included them in the total price of the car it was fine.

Where did you get the spoiler from bud? Best I've been quoted is £325 delivered. Thinking of going non-OEM route at that price.

OEM eBay seller JCT600 BMW £165 + £15 delivery.

Could have got it with free delivery but was tight for time.

Ah ok so one time only thing. Great price, looks good on your car

Which Cotswold offered it for £325 fitted, Cheltenham or Hereford? That's probably the best price I'm going to get.
