I have just made my device and managed to connect everything up on the car, the hotspot seemed to connect ok and I could see the dashboard connected. Before I tried actually doing anything via the device I thought I would try to download a map to flash in offline mode, when I clicked to do this the screen came up as normal and said it was downloading but then the app crashed. It did this 3 times, so I have just stopped trying for now. Has anyone else had this issue?

I"ve never had the app crash. I would uninstall the app then re-install.

That's what I thought, I did that last night so will try it again when I get a chance.

Thanks

Well, I have tried reinstalling the app, and also downloaded and installed the latest firmware, the app is still crashing when it is trying to download maps before flashing. I am using an iPhone 6 plus and the app connects with the car properly, it just keeps crashing

Fairly certain it's something on your side...rather than throwing darts at a troubleshooting board, contact support HERE . Customer support is second to none, they'll have you sorted relatively quickly.

EDIT: Just read deeper into your posts...not sure they'll provide support into your agent device as it was built by you. They may have you use a laptop to troubleshoot...

Yeah, I don't believe they will support my own build, hence asking on here.

Awesome, many thanks OP.

Works a dream, literally £35 and 15 minutes work.

UK cars have OBD port in the kick panel by the door, so a permanent install isn't possible. But that's OK, I just plug it in as and when I need it.

No, BM3 will not support any DIY WiFi Agents - I have seen them post that statement specifically in a thread some time ago. But they also made a conscious decision to not lock it down either if people want to go the DIY route. However, based on what you are describing, if the app is crashing, it sounds like it could be an issue with your phone. If not the phone, try a different SD card for your Pi. When BM3 updated their WiFi Agent image file, I was able to burn the new image on my existing SD card (reformatting it) and it worked fine - including any subsequent WiFi agent updates.

One last thing is to verify you have a good strong signal for your phone to get the updates and flashes done properly. I did have a few issues with WiFi agent updates due to poor cell phone signal strength.

Good Luck...

It is still possible, with the help of a few different style OBD2 plug adapters/extenders and a little creativity...

Does that adapter actually work? Have you tried it? I tried one from amazon and no luck. I just gave up. If there is one that works it would really clean up the look.

I tried this one with no luck. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I can't speak from personal experience with that specific adapter, that was just an example of what I could find with a quick search. But I have used other OBD2 adapters/extenders in a different car for a different application. However, the one I posted is merely supposed to extend the OBD2 port, not re-wire the port. If the cable does not work, it is a faulty (or really cheaply made) cable.

Yes it fits superbly clean. There is actually a small gap between the drop down panel under the steering wheel and the left panel where the OBD is. You can see the OBD extension in this photo and it looks perfectly clean and does not get in the way at all. In fact I just went to my dealer today and unplugged it from the OBD port slid it down a little bit and it stayed locked in place out of sight pretty much. When I pick it up later, all I will have to do is pull it forward again and plug it in. Here's a photo of it installed, looks like its sticking out a bit but it really feels flush. You can see where the cable goes up under the panel, that's where there is a gap perfect for fitment with no cutting.

Sorry completely misread your question. Yes that easily tucks up in the center console and stays in place regardless of my driving style. I left it hanging out in the picture for the sake of showing how it rests before shoving it up into console. Trust me, I HATE seeing wires anywhere. Even when run cleanly in a track or something.

Gotcha. So, it goes Device-> USB -> SAE harness -> Switch -> Power/ground in center console?

No issues with any of them, but if you do have iOS, then you need to go through some extra steps to ensure it works. As for the SD card, ensure you don't format it at the end if it asks you. If you need to format the SD card, use disk management, delete all volumes, and recreate the entire thing. You will know it's searching for the hotspot if the green LED is blinking. You can also try USB tethering, which almost always works for iOS guys (If you can't figure out the wireless issue). Lastly, I only tried it on a TV and not a monitor, but HDMI may not be enabled for the image. If it doesn't work for you either, you can go and enable it in the config. I'll see if I can image another and try.
thx! i couldnt get mine to work until i read the below:

Good question, unfortunately I'm not certain of the answer. A guess would be, it should work otherwise I don't think they would sell any splitter. But then again it will be dependent on the OBD and the two devices requesting data. I don't honestly see why not. Maybe someone who has done this could chime in.
