DIY Supercharger?
this is the link to the supercharger that i want to get for my 03' 2.5i, i want to get some opinions on it before i spend the $400 on it. i probably shouldnt say this but one of my friends has a S2k and told me that it is worth every penny but, i read on another forum that you cant feel the difference. or something like that, apparently, my understanding is that there is little difference in the dyno performance from any bolt on performance enhancer for the Z4. correct me if im wrong but i think that a 1psi supercharger should make a difference but not a substantional one.

Looks like a waste of money to me.
I say save up and get a REAL supercharger. Not an electric fan for $400.

As far as companies with solid reputations and excellent parts,
I'd suggest either going with ESS Tuning (Their kits are based off of lysholm screw-type blowers) or going with Vortech (centrifugal). Personally I like the ESS more but I have a thing for screw type charges. If i wanted a centrifugal supercharger I would've gone with a turbo. :P

Keep in mind "if it sounds to good to be true then it probably is." If this fan worked, supercharger companies would not spend so much money on their products.
While this makes sense to us conceptually, it would have to spin sooo fast to actually work. Superchargers are costly because of the RPMs they turn makes them very difficult and expensive to manufacture. At 6000 engine rpms a supercharger might be spinning at 18,000 rpm! That fan would melt at those speeds. Any chance you saw this advertised on the WB at about 2 am |

no, I didn't catch this product advertised at 2am on the wb, LOL. I understand your point but at the same time its only a 1psi supercharger that is supposed to operate at 10,500 rpm.

Your link is a joke. Not only do those toys NOT provide real results, they actually add parasitic loss to the system. Stick with ESS for real products.

Several people run the ESS package, although they are not common forum contributers. They make 2.5 and 3.0 packages, and soon will have M fitment as well. I'll say it again: they have the only legit "kit" on the market right now that comes with its own tuning and support.

VF is looking for cars to build their kit on at this time. They do not have a production kit, so how can you recommend them?
I look forward to hearing from VF when / if they complete their product offering. |

I have a 03' 3.0 with the older ESS TX2 supercharger. I believe that their newer TS2 system is supposed to be better. The previous owner didn't do a great job with the install and upkeep of the system. Nevertheless, the ESS system is awesome and ESS has been great to deal with on the support end, as I work on tuning the system. The power delivery is very smooth, more torque than the rear tires can handle and the car pulls hard all the way to redline. I have to run the car with the traction control all the way off, otherwise it just kicks in at an annoying rate. It's a great system and worth the money. PM if you want to know more or have any questions.
